UPDATED PAGE 16 for drag passes and broken parts
well i cant hold out any longer on this. i did not want to post this until after the new year but i just cant wait any longer. as some of you know ''the ones that follow my progress'' i been seeking a 9 second pass this year. well it did not happen. the car as ran flawless all year except at the end of the year when i had multiple clutch issues. anyways s$%t happens and that's that. back in august before the shootout i was doing a 100oct tune and the clutch let go on the dyno. so we put another one in the day before i was supposed to leave for Ohio. i got to Ohio and the car would not shift right. i missed more gears there in 2 passes then i have all year in 40 passes. anyways i drove the car home and corrected the problem. needless to say that only lasted a few miles and i was slipping the new rebuilt clutch again. i then again took it apart and put in the modded clutch disk and right off the lift it was slipping. at this point i had said i am parking the car for the year.
i was planning to park the car and install a new clutch over the winter along with my ''project 9'' changes but i put the new clutch in 2 weeks ago and have not had time to play with the car. oddly it has not been running right and it has major boost leak issues. to start off i check boost leaks to 40psi and almost never have one. i am on top of many things on the car and this is one. but strangely i have a serious issue. to start off almost every injector O-ring is leaking pretty badly. so i ordered them and will replace every O-ring. but i think i have a bigger problem somewhere as the car will not hold any type of pressure. so once i fix this O-ring issue i can continue and work on the next issue.
anyways once that's sorted out i can begin ''project 9'' i am naming it project 9 for a reason. i want to run 9s. I have tried pretty hard this year but it did not happen. i believe i can do it though as the car sits. but that's not me. on pump gas ''93'' the car ran a best of 10.37 @ 137.XX with a 1.68 60 foot. i was pretty happy with this. i am sure it can go quicker but my name is not john force and im the average driver. anyways i then added 100oct to the car and that's when all hell broke loose and i had clutch issues. the best i could manage was a 10.41 @ 141.XX with a 1.78 60 foot. now this was only at 36/7 PSI and the car was tuned at i believe 39 psi. the reason it was not run at 39 PSI is because the car ran out of gas on the dyno at 1130pm. there was no 100oct stations around and Sean said to run the car at no more then 36 psi. he said the car was 100% safe but just wanted to finish the 39PSI tuning before we run it. this tells you Sean protects his customers. plus it gave us a chance to see how the added HP does.
anyways there is so much more detail left out here but whatever. that's the moral of the story for 2010. on to project 9.
i am making some small and some big changes to the car. i do not think i am going to be adding any power as it has plenty ''other then finishing the 100oct tune'' but i want to make the car much more efficient and ready for this task. my goal still remains. 9.99 on the current tires and 100oct. i want to drive to the track. line up and run 9s and drive home. IMO a true 9 sec street car. once that goal is met then i will be doing E85 and slicks. but until then i want a true 9 sec street car.
the changes i will be making are 2 major projects and then some small bits here and there. keep in mind. every mod i do will have weight reduction in mind 100%.
FMIC, UICP, RAD
the first major change is the FMIC, UICP, and radiator. currently i have a Nisei FMIC, Nisei UICP, and CBRD radiator. this is a bit hard to explain over the forum without pics but i will give it a shot. chad and i are going to build a custom RAD, FMIC, and UICP for the car. i saw the idea off of his TA car and i asked him about it. basically the UICP comes off the TB makes the bend to the front of the car and instead of going down and around like most UICP's this one will go right to the FMIC. the radiator will be made like a 3/4 RAD so the UICP can pass threw to the FMIC. this will save 3 bends and a few feet of ICP over the current design i have now. the FMIC core is still a Nisei core with no end tanks which Chad will make custom. the size of the core is exactly the same as the FMIC i have now. i feel this core is the best. i am hoping this will also save some good weight. my goal is around 8 to 10 lbs. most of that will be in the RAD as its not as big and will hold less fluid. i am also hoping this will help make the charge system more efficient then what i have now. if it does nothing then so be it. i at least saved a few lbs. call me crazy. but that's how i role. HAHAH
SUSPENSION
the next major overhaul is the suspension. right now i have a Megan street coilover setup. the car is not corner balanced at all. i don't even know if i have the right alignment specs for what i want. anyways that's the past. thanks to David Buschur for setting me up with what we feel is an ideal setup for my car. i placed an order for a set of Apex N1 coilovers with swift springs and front and rear sway bars. most don't use sway bars but i am. with these new changes i will be shaving 21 lbs off my current setup ''Megan street's and stock sway bars''...... once this is complete the car will get a special alignment and it will be corner balanced.
TURBO KIT
next is the turbo kit. i am leaving the same turbo kit on the car but i am sending the manifold, turbine housing, DP, dump tubes out to Swain tech coatings and i am having them coat everything. this greatly drops under hood temps and keeps the heat inside the exhaust path where it needs to be.
DRIVETRAIN
I had a Devo drive shaft. there was nothing wrong with it but i wanted to support a company who is still in business so i bought a AWD Motorsports aluminum drive shaft. this DS was also 1.8 lbs lighter then the Devo unit. this is already on the car and is working perfectly. i am also buying the BR rear diff mounts with bushings and mustache bar. right now i have the BR solid diff mounts and AMS mustache delete bracket. I wont be saving any weight here but i am doing it to reduce vibration only.
there you have it. i left out a few small things but everything will be posted in time as i begin to work on the car. I hope you like my''project 9' and goal's for next year. this will take me most of the winter to complete as i am in no rush and have other projects going on. as i make way with this project and parts start rolling in i will of course be taking pics of everything. but i don't expect anything to begin before Christmas. i just wanted to get this thread going. HAHA. feel free to comment on my ideas and or help me out with some ideas of your own to help me get the car into the 9s.
i want to thank everyone who has helped me in 2010. you guys know who you are. again thanks so much for everything. lets make 2011 even better.
P.S. everything coming off the car that is being replaced is FS.

thanks guys. i will.
the sway bars should be here in a few days. the coilovers are on back order for 2 months. no biggy as i wont be driving the car until around march anyways. i will post pics as i go for sure.
i may also drop the car off at DogBox Racing and have him give the trans a once over and freshen it up real nice before the new race season begins.

Sounds like a good approach to getting to your goal. The car makes the power for sure. Good luck and we are confident you will hit your 9 next year. Determination and dedication will pay off.
