cracked head, block , or bad head gasket?
cracked head, block , or bad head gasket?
I will start by saying that the block was freshly out of the machine shop, headstuds were new (L19), and the head was resurfaced 10k miles prior (never over heated) , and the head gasket was new OE.
After having it on the dyno made 626/512 with the only visible problem being some valve float at high rpms due to some wimpy crower spring , I take it home to install some supertech dual springs.. started this job cylinder head on the car.. while applying pressure to the cylinder noticed that my upper rad hose was hard as a rock, only to open the resivour to see steady bubbling from the tube..
At this point we remove the head suspect of a bad gasket only to find that the gasket appears ok... no visible cracks in the block, so I take the head to the machine shop to have it pressure checked.. now waiting to hear back..
Is there something I missed , or a common problem at this power level I don't know about?
The car never ran hot , never drank coolant , and never over flowed the resivour... please help!

Did you check your oil to see if there is coolant in it? Also check the exhaust to see if there is white smoke? Maybe a small air leak somewhere or the system was never purged when they filled with coolant.
I wouln't think you have a bad head gasket since the car is not over heating and you didn't mention there was coolant anywhere on the engine.

To be honest, I don't think you really have a problem. There would be signs if there was.
I would ask the shop if they purged the system when they added the coolant. Should of added coolant, start the car and run it with the blower on high heat with the radiator cap off for about 15 minutes.

As you say there is no problem, how do you explain me watching bubbles coming out of the resivour with a completely cold engine , with a cylinder pressure of 120psi , and a radiator pressure over 16psi?
