Stock rebuild or built?

I have an 05 Evo with cams and Tomei ARMS turbo. I am somewhere in the 90's with my cyclinder 3 compression and need/want to do a rebuild this winter. I DD my car and road race it 3-4 times a summer at Miller Motorsports Park. I would like to run 22/23lbs on 91oct and maybe 25 on 98.

What would you recomend as far as the rebuild goes?
understanding i am in Utah with mostly 91 available and high elevation and power numbers never going to exceed 450....

You can get away with a stock rebuild. If you decide to go bigger in the future you'll have wished you built it. A 2.3 would be sweet for daily and road race...

Funds are limited tho...

How much more would it require to go built with quality parts or even 2.3 vs the stock rebuild, which i think i can have someone do in chasis?

or could i even just do the one cyclinder???

x2 on the stock rebuild. For the amount of power you're wanting stock internals would work just fine. But in the event that you think you may want to bump up the power, go with the built block now. On a budget, it is possible to just do one cylinder but I would advise you do new bearings and rings all around while the engine is out.

+1, This would be a great idea. Much cheaper than a 2.3 stroker and with that amount of power you should be fine with the stock internals as many people have been over that with no problem.

While its apart you might as well throw a decent set of rods and pistons in. Budget, talk to slow boy racing for a good set of manley rods and pistons. Thats just my opinion. Good luck!

I've always been leaning towards the stock rebuild since my power numbers will never exceed that which the 4g63 can handle with stock internals.

However, if i do come into some addintion funds i would try to go 2.3.

Im just not sure that if the power numbers im seaking will really require it.

+1. Work some over times, search for some sales or ht up SBR. An Eagle/Wiseco set up could do you just right.

Or if funds are no where in sight. Just OEM it.

SBR fails lol. The guy said he was limited on funds. He didn't say he wanted to get the run around that SBR will deliver.

+1

I see you also have had personal experience.

To the OP. If cash is tight, be smart and just do a stock rebuild. However, you never know what parts are going to be needed until you take it apart. You might be able to get away with re-ringing. Find somebody that knows what they are doing and won't take advantage of you by saying that you need more parts than the job will actually require.

Really the only benefits I could see of eagle rods over oem would be the arp rod bolts. I say throw arp rod bolts on the stock rods and run stock internals. I think the QC of oem rods would surpass that of eagle. I've run plenty of eagle rods in the honda world but only because the factory rods couldn't handle the power of FI. If I had the option of running oem vs. eagle and both hold similar torque/rpm handling capabilities, I'd go with oem.

Thanks for all the input fellas...
I have a mechanic who races full time, he is busy in the summer but has lots of free time in the winter. we put arp headstuds in when we did the 60k maintenence and he has always said go with the stock rebuild.

I think that re-ringing it and doing rodbolts will fit the budget and power numbers im after.

Does anyone have any experience with tomie turbo?
