Mivec related

If i think i am having an issue with the mivec gear/system, is it possible to unplug the oil control valve in the back of the head to check? Not sure if it being completely unplugged will cause any issues and or damage?

do you mean unplug the mivec oil control solenoid?
the system has oil pressure when it's turned off, holding the intake cam in the full retarded position (0 deg).
Once the solenoid is activated, it goes to fully advanced (28-30deg?)

what problems are you having?

i understand how it works, but ive been having a noise from the intake cam... or so i think. i was wondering if i could unplug this to disengage the mivec gear to eliminate that as a problem. and if by unplugging that the noise went away then i would be left with oil control selonoid or the mivec gear itself.
