How to destroy an MR 6-speed (video inside)
I swear I didn't. Held it to just before grabbing point and slipped it quickly the rest of the way. I have a fidanza 4.3 (sprung 6-puck) which is more grabby than stock. Maybe that's why? It has much less travel in the pedal.
too much movement in mount (worn or broke)+ wheel hop = cracked trans.
Similar on my RB powered 240sx, left diff fluid all across the intersection. Snapped from pinion to rear cover
My .02
Okay guys, I'm pretty much ready to buy this 5-speed but I'm concerned about what appears to be surface rust/corrosion on the input shaft. Can anyone comment on this? The trans will be getting the Buschwacker treatment before install but that does not include replacing the input shaft. Does this trans look okay?

The seller is also selling this one but with more mileage and apparently less hardware attached. There doesn't appear to be any surface rust/corrosion on this one.

Same price but the first (surface rust) is stock and the second (no rust) was already "built" by some shop. Since I'm having Buschur build it anyway, I'd rather not get one that was already opened.
Well I stopped by the shop today to see the 6-speed's internals. Amazingly it does not appear that any of the gears failed. The case simply split in two. For the record I still don't believe wheelhop alone explains a failure like this. My builder agrees. There had to be some kind of flaw already for it to split so spectacularly.
I am beginning to rethink 5-speed swap. Since I have no desire whatsoever to go drag racing again and the 6-speed itself didn't actually fail, just the case, I'm thinking maybe I should stick with the 6-speed for my daily driver.
Anyway, RIP OEM 6-speed. Thanks for 4 years of putting up with my crap on a daily basis.

The only visible damage to the interior of the trans is from the giant ACD gear. Unfortunately this gear is visibly chipped from where it made contact with the inside of the trans.

Not sure it's even worth trying to Frankenstein together my internals with someone else's case. A complete working condition 6-speed can be had for a grand. But if anyone has a case with working ACD and blown 3/4/5 gear for sale for cheap, please let me know.
The 5-speed is way stronger and tougher than the glass-made 6-speed.
