Just food for thought, I have a buddy who has a 10.5 hotside for sale that was modified to accept a 38mm Tial EWGA w/external dump. He originally had a standard turbine housing with the divorced o2 housing and an upgraded IWGA - the Tial was a gain overtop of that even. That was by far one of the best upgrades I've seen for a stock 8-9 turbo. I'd suggest looking into that - if you're interested in my buddy's send me a PM and I'll set you up with him.

This might be diverging from the original topic.

I'll let him know you may be interested

Sorry for being off topic. Just wanted to add my .02 to the topic - which is my buddy had the WGA upgrade + the divorced o2 housing/dump and when this went on he gained more up top. Definitely would be best suited with a retune though...

I'd like to revive this thread. Im about to purchase an FP WG in the near future. Should I run an 18psi gate or a 25psi gate? I dont really plan on running less than 25psi at anytime. Boost control is via a Turbo Smart E-Boost Street EBC.

I would like to know this as well. I am going to get a new tune soon and I do not know if the stock turbocharger would work 25+psi on 92oct. If it can't make that boost level safely, it would be better for me to go 18psi WGA.

Itll be fine nollij. I put down almost 376whp on stock Mivec, stock turbo, and stock injectors with just a Walbro 255lph pump at about 26-27psi. IDC was almost maxed but still a tad bit of room for safety. I also havent done the check valve mod for my Walbro either.

Maybe I would go for the FP 25 PSI unit in your case. You won't be running below 25 PSI anyway. The 25 PSI unit should require less tinkering upon initial setup. Some have needed to cut the actuator rod on the 18 pounder to get the proper preload setting for fast spoolup and midrange torque.

Having said this, the 18 PSI unit can be setup to work just fine on a IX turbo at under 30 PSI of boost. It just requires a bit of tinkering. In your case I would just get the 25 pounder.

The 18 PSI unit got a bad rap early on as it exhibited a slight tendency to spike if your peak boost level was set at under 22 PSI. This wouldn't be a problem in your case though as you'll be running at a higher boost level. I personally never experienced this creep issue on my particular FP 18 pounder.

FWIW, guys in the Bay Area won't run FP actuators. They prefer the Forge units.

Thanks Sparky! I would never run a boost level near 22 psi again on stock turbo, so that wouldnt be an issue. I certainly dont want to spend the money on a nice actuator only to have to mod it though. I think I will do the FP compressor housing and FP 25psi WG at the same time. As mentioned, I dont plan on running under 25 psi.
