This looks wrong
I just did a radiator swap, and I saw this when I had it taken apart. The rod on my VIII's waste gate actuator looks partly extended. I have a spare WG that someone gave me and that metal collar is flush with the base on that one. I was already racing the sun to get the new radiator in and didn't have time to mess with it, but it doesn't look right; it looks like the WG is partly open? I've never had that section of the motor taken apart before.
yea someone preloaded that wga pretty good. i usually set mine no larger than 1/4" from completely flush and have great boost response and holding on the oem wga.
If your car is driving well and u have no overboost or creep, u can just leave it probably.
If u want, just unhook the turnbuckle from the gate to make sure the actuator spring isnt defective or anything.
Then u could adjust the turnbuckle a half turn to a full turn clockwise to ease the preload a bit.
If when u go to remove the turnbuckle from the gate, there's no tension on the actuator arm and it doesnt immediately slide back toward the actuator head...you've got a busted wga.
Ive got an extra one for sale if it turns out to be broken.
Oh yea...could you possibly make the pic above a bit larger, I can't quite see it...

picture is sooooo big it's out of scale and hard to tell what if anything looks wrong.
if your not having issues with your turbo just leave it.
i would think that your decision to agdujst your WGA should come from turbo/engine performance and not be based on it's looks when you're changing your radiator.
