mishimoto tstat + Rad = too cold engine

I installed a mishimoto racing tstat and mishimoto aluminum radiator, now the car will stay around 150-160degF when driving without the fan on. At idle it will warm up to normal temps.

Anyone else have this problem?

Any reason you decided to go with a 160 deg t-stat instead of an oem one?
Remember that if your engine runs too cool it can cause premature wear. If you switch back to an oem t-stat you will probably not have this issue as bad even with the larger radiator.

Got the tstat as before I got the rad+tstat I was having over heating problems, and originally planned on getting a half rad.

Anyone else running this tstat?

I was running the tstat on stock radiator and it kept running cold. I eventually went back to stock thermostat

Captain hindsight says if you didn't want to run 160 you shouldn't have installed a 160 t-stat

Sounds like a good idea for the half rad but since you didn't go that route it sounds like time to change it.

Wrong t-stat....replace with OEM and your problem will be solved....

TECH TIP: OEM Stock EVO thermostat opens at 82 Celsius and the Mishimoto opens at 63 Celsius.

So your car is working per your setup ....Change the t-stat to the stock OEM and your temps will go back to NORMAL .

As stated I was having over heating problems before I got the rad + tstat, got both at the same time. I still thought it would need the tstat with the rad as the 3g doesnt have holes in the front bumper just for the rad. The air has to go through the ic first. And I read that some dsm where having the overheating problem that I was and needed the tstat to control the temps. But now that the temp outside has dropped I guess its not gonna be needed, may have to put it back in during the summer

You should run the OEM t-stat year round. If you knew better you would have not posted the initial question. You should NOT be running a 63* tstat on a street car. If you were having overheating problems, you should have properly addressed the root cause and applied the correct fix. Good luck....

Apparently neither of you read my whole post on why I get the mishimoto tstat.

3g's dont have the 2 holes in the front to allow air to bypass the IC and go to the radiator. Just like dsm's, which is why the have a tendency to overheat even with upgraded radiators when the outside temp is high. Another thing when I was overheating it was atleast 80deg more towards 90's now its 30's...Thanks for your opinions tho.

I did put the oem one back in which actualy says 80deg C on it not 82degC which I thought they were but at the same time the mishimoto tstat says 66degC on it when it says 63degC on the box. Temps stays exactly at 180deg now

I read it all but I assumed you were talking about an evo, not a 3g. I re read it again but I still am wondering when you say you were overheating. What were your coolant temps at?
