the hks is going to out spool the fp red any day off the week but the red will make more power hands down easily. Really depends on how you want to get to 450. If you want that quick spool then HKS but dont plan on making any more power or seeing 500 with that thing meaning you will be buying another turbo if once you get to 450 you just want to get 500 so thats 1800 your throwing down the drain. The hks from reports and dyno graphs is a good turbo for autox road coursing etc but defiantly no drag turbo. The red can do it all but you will loose spool up. If it was me I would go with a fp red its a more versitile turbo and if you decide you want more power its up to the task of doing so. the only true benefit I see of the hks is its BB but force preformace has a bad *** warranty and will have no issues assisting you should you require a rebuild. Now if you are all about sprited driving down low and quick hits then HKS all the way no point in loosing spool up .

We have not even talked about if your going built motor displacement anyone?

If you do autox you'll be saying F YOU to drag racing lol.

Seriously though 450 is 450. If you can make it with the HKS then do it all the while keeping the fast spool. I didn't see injectors in your list though and thats going to be a must obviously.

hks hands down for autocross...drag its good for high 10s properly supported...if you want more than 480-500 whp...red is the way to go....if you only want 450-500 then the hks is alot better in that range...it will spool quicker than stock...aka a more usuable car on the steet...both great turbos...ask yourself what your intended use is and build to suit those needs...

Well like I said I like to drag and I also like to do some autox and hit some twisty roads so I'm thinking if I can hit 450+ with the hks an not lose spool then I'd do that, but i haven't seen too many reviews on the hks and the red i was looking at is 1st Gen

if your going to be doing more drag GET THE FP RED dont be fooled by the faster then stock spool around 450+ that hks is pushing its limits to be honest. yes you can change octane etc and get more hp but i have not seen a hks even close to 500 yet the highest red is 631 of course with alot of mods but at least you know its possible.

400-420whp on pump on hks...480-490 whp on e85 already been done...600+ whp only possible on red though...you will feel loss in spool...i have hks and have experience with larger stock frame turbos...honestly the hks makes alot more torque down low quicker...makes the 2.0 feel more like a stroker...if you can drive a car with each set up and decide which works for you...

why pretend get a stroked motor LOL. i dont see a hks doing 500 unless you have a completely built car majority of parts possible on e85 with aggressive timing and very high boost. At that point its not safe then you will really be trying to blow it fp red for sure. Now if he only wants as you said 400-420 then i dont see why not with the hks but I would still consider the hta green at that point.

Haha, not sure why it even took someone this long to ask this..

If you really think its your turbo pull the intake and check for shaft play. Up/down should be about the thickness of your thumbnail or less, in/out should be zero. Check that first before you go ordering stuff.

If it is your turbo choice, then you have two completely different turbos in your options bucket. Figure out what you want the car for, then it can be easier to narrow down. You're overlooking so many turbos with that list also...HTA Green, BBK-lite-full- or B, Black, etc.

yes im sure its not a boost leak, the car was holding boost perfectly fine, i also checked it all over to make sure it was a boost leak, i took the intake off an there is more than a thumb nail of play in it, i'd like it to be between 450-500 on 93, i dont wanna run e85, and as far as what i want for it, i wanna be able to be going down the road an just $h!t on people, but i also wanna be able to drag and i was thinking about getting into some auto-x-ing as well, i was told the red is the best one to go with incase i feel like upping the HP
