really something that simple would cause it to randomly just die and then restart?

Let it sit and if it dies after you removed the cables its your alternator or battery.

hook a battery charger up to it and charge battery 100% then try again, if problem persists then im not sure.. maybe a huge grounding point is disconnected somewhere. check the ground on alternator and etc.

whats your battery voltage while its running?alternator might be weak, you ever got your ecu mess with tuned? it look like you might have the maf sensor unplug or the coolant temp or iacv, check those harness for cutts or burns or any wires

whats the easiest way to figure this out..i have lots of possibilities but no one has really said how to diagnose the problem other than the battery and alternator

I think its the battery. You said it, sat two years, and it was fine before it sat, then this happened. If you didn't have a trickle charger on the battery, then the battery is dead and will need to be replaced. If you have another car at your house, swap the batteries and test to see if she idles.

ussually caps go bad in a ecu first. it certainly wouldnt like water tho.

cant log something wrong and kill the ecu. you can kill the ecu if its not getting proper voltage tho and you attempt to write to its memory and it corrupts the flash.. can still be fixed tho. "debricked"

do what i said and give the battery a full charge to 100% with a good charger. then start it up.

the car ran fine before right? its not a injector scaling/deadtime issue right?

also..... as i said before check for any loose or unhooked grounds.

with a full battery it will still run with no alternator for a good 15minutes depending how strong the battery is. on a mini battery maybe 3minutes
