i took it to a car repair shop and they told me its throwing these codes
cylinder 1 miss fire

cam sensor
and he said he wants to replace the maf because he thinks the motor sucked in water and fouled mine out. he said the air filter was wet....

well to rule out first like someone had posted make sure the crank and cam marks are lined up and your at top dead center on cylinder # 1, other then that you can check on here for how to test the cam sensor and crank sensor, a car will not start if a crank sensor is bad, if its a cam sensor it will either not run, run and then die, or run like **** till it eventually dies, everyone has given u good advice where to start, my guess is other then checkin alternator and battery double check wiring to both for being frayed broken or exposed...u can try swappin a fuel pump too, to rule that out. somewhere on the internet is our evo manual thats for adobe acrobat so you can test everything.
good luck
good luck
Bringing it back
Ok so I'm kind of bringing this thread back to life, however I am experiencing this identical issue with my EVO9.
The difference for me would be I HAVE been driving the car for the last year, this problem has occured 3 or 4 times over the last couple months but will seem to just resolve itself when I come back to it a day later.
I've tested the battery and alternator are good.
I had a slightly modified tune that was leaned out very slightly, I have flashed back the stock tune and still had the problem occur.
I've also logged the following codes but I don't beleive these would cause this problem?
P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2)
P0401 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Insufficient Flow Detected
One more note, I have installed an EVO8 3BAR map sensor but that was 7 months ago and never had any problems with the car starting or running since it was installed.
My thought is I should check TDC on the timing belt, is this easily done when you're just checking TDC and not replacing the belt?
