5w30 grade, which oil would you guys use? I'm on stock turbo boosting between 26-27lbs, and mainly use the car for drag and high speed stuff.

I use Motul 8100x 5w-30 with stock turbo 24 psi.

How has it been treating you? I've been doing research all day, and just bought the Motul 8100x

The pick of the Motuls is 300V but its bloody expensive stuff . Can be had for automotive or sport bike engines and given a choice sport bike oils stand up to hard use better .

I'm not looking for oil arguments but if you want a good group 4 synthetic oil with high levels of anti wear additives you may consider Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W40 . Plenty of road bikes use it and it is NOT Mobils dedicated use it for nothing else but competition synthetic oil .

Your valve train may have roller rockers but I'm not sure how long a std bush bearing turbocharger will stand up to those boost levels . The guts of Mobil 1 Racing 4T is thats its designed to stand up to high localised hot spots in bikes and have high ZDDP levels (1700 PPM) to make high speed direct cam lobe on bucket valve trains survive sport use . Compared to car engines real sport bike engines are closer to real race engines and make a lot more power per Cu In because of it . Try dragging a Bussa and see how you fare .

You should be able to buy this oil far cheaper in the US than here in Australia where a good price is $12 a litre which is a smidgen more than your quarts .

I was reading up on the 300v on Motul's site, but the distributors we use at the shop can't get it. I'm buying 8100x at wholesale, and it's cheaper than the EP Mobil1 I usually use.

I'll looking for an oil that will stand up to more abuse, but not break the bank because I do a good amount of driving and my oil changes happen pretty regularly.

If money were not an object, I'd just buy case loads of the best **** I could find.

Im doing some analysis on different oils. I just got back an anaylsis from blackstone from amsoil 5w30 I was running. Now Im running Pennzoil Ultra for the same amount of miles and going to send that in to get that anaylized. Each oil is ran for 3000 miles, using a brand new napa gold/wix filter. I havent tried the mobile 1 racing 4t but I will say, out of all the oils I have put in the evo, the ultra is pretty nice stuff so far.

Motor feels healthy and Motul 8100x was recommended to me by CBRD. The Evo is driven daily and I have not dragged or tracked the car. There is most likely something better out there for your setup but I'll let others chime in on those options. Current mods to my car are posted in Evo Dyno Tuning and Results section if you're curious about other parts/power/etc.

Maybe CBRD can give some input on this.

we run the motul standard 5w-30 in the street engines.. (we also run amsoil)..

the track cars we run 20w-60 300V race oil, but its changed after each event... its probably the best smelling liquid on the planet LOL!

Just switched to Motul 8100 5w40 and WTH, a lot more lifter noise. It's pretty cold here right now and thought the lighter weight oil would be better. Was buying Amsoil right before purchasing this. First choice is alway's better it seems.
Would you recommend going back to 10w30 or is there ANY oil that helps with lifter noise?

^ I would stick to 5w30. I've been running Motul 8100 x-max for about 7k miles now and I like it. The engine feels a bit smoother. The best part is that it doesn't start burning after 3k like Mobil1 did. I ran it to 4000 miles when I first changed it, and it was still at the same level.

Is the MOTUL 8100X, to which you are refering, actually MOTUL 8100 XCESS 5W-40?

I just discovered that the MOTUL product lineup is kinda confusing as there is an XMAX, an XCLEAN, and an XCESS.

I have been running this stuff(XCESS 5W-40) in my turbodiesel P/U and it is definitely a good, high mileage oil. I switched over from Mobil1 Delvac 5W-40.

I know Motul is very good and their Ester based oil top notch but just wondering why noise went up. I'll try Amsoil next oil change....very early.
