GT30r setup options

I am upgrading to my current stock turbo setup and would like some opinions and input on what parts to use. My plan is to make between 400-420awhp.

As of right now I have a 255, mbc @ 23psi w/ buschur flash, bushur turbo-back, k&n dropin filter, buschur uicp and mini battery.

I was thinking of going with a GT30r, 8xx cc injectors, ACT street clutch, kelford 272's, ams fmic w/ licp, jm fab. o2 dump, aem wideband and a "real" intake. Then getting it tuned using the stock ecu.

I'm not looking to squeek the most hp out of my engine. I just want over 400awhp while still using 93 pump.

Does anyone have any better suggestions as to how to go about doing this? I drive the car just about everyday, so i'd rather not make things too complicated.
Thanks

You will catch alot of crap, most people believe the 30r is outdated. If you go full bolted and a solid tne i bet you could come really close to your goal.
if not go with a green hta

That's fine. I mean, I am looking to do this correctly the first time in terms of reaching my goal. I don't want to do the whole trial and error bs. I'm open to any suggestions to lead me on the right path.

hta green or fp red. 400whp is very easy to obtain with stock framed turbo's. save your money that you would need for the manifold and customs water/oil lines and put them towards a set of GSC S2 cams and valve springs

You can get 400whp out of a IX turbo if you push it, and you have all the other peripherals. Safely though, I'd say an FPRed, that way you can get 400-420whp without pushing the turbo at all. Cams, pump, exhaust, FMIC and piping, FPRed, boost controller, and a tune will easily put you right in your goal range.

+1 on staying stock framed if those #'s are your goal. You can easily achieve that with a Red and a few of the other parts you just listed.

btw: how were you gonna get that JM fab 02 dump to fit on that 30R

I agree with the stock frame turbo option, a Red would be a great investment... you will make 400whp very easy without pushing the turbo too hard + great spool and be able to get quite a bit more power if you want

journal bearing turbos can not compete with Ball Bearing turbos for longevity... my GT30r makes the same power as my Red did, but has lasted well after the life the Red lived...

I didn't even think about that. That's another deciding factor, since this is my only car.

We can also talk of the transient response of a BB turbo...no stock frame turbo can compete.

I say an FP Red would be a more practical application for your goals.

This is a no-brainer, and it isn't just a matter of turbo selection.

As compared to any stock framed FP turbo, a GT30R requires a host of additional parts to be fitted ($$), spools slower, and delivers no real power advantage, especially if 400whp with 93 octane is the goal. And contrary to what was posted above, the twinscroll factory frame FP turbos give superior transient response to any equivalent T3/T4 type with an open turbine housing. GT30R - same power, slower spool, more money as compared to an FP Red.

As far as longevity concerns, FP Reds and Blacks do best with competent oil selection, but the shaft speeds required to get 400+whp are nominal, and anything one fits should outlast the engine with proper setup and care.

The conventional GT30R setup was a viable option back in 2005, but in 2011, the stock framed FP Reds and Blacks hold advantages over T3/T4s until beyond 600whp.

If I were after 400whp with 93 octane, I'd look at an FP Green. There is little sense in losing any more spool than necessary for 400-420whp.

I would agree. FP reds and blacks are awesome turbos and its way more costly effective to do. Unlike my GT3065R was, but my options where limited back when I choose my setup.
Needless to say, I've had my 30r for over 4 years now and I abuse the hell out if it. No shaft play either

If I was going to choose a turbo at this point. I would go with FP red or black.

hands down.
