Exhaust Gaskets??

I am doing an evo9 turbo swap, and i am trying to figure out if i should keep the same exhaust manifold gasket or get a new one?? The one that was on the car was the OEM 4 layer gasket.

Also do you guys use a gasket for the megan o2 housing to the downpipe?? And what kind of gasket should i use?

replace it. it will leak and that is not somewhere i want exhaust at 1600F+, personally. also, if you have a wideband an exhaust leak will drive you crazy

I've reused one before, so long as its clean you shouldn't have any problems. Thats the joy of the stacked shim gaskets. I've done it along with a few others. Get a new one for peace of mind if you want.

No you can re-use them many many times....Just make sure to re-torque the nuts after a few heat cycles....And YES, use a tq wrench to make sure you are applying the correct load.

agreed, I ended up replacing my ex. manifold gasket after having it off the car like 5 times just for piece of mind, but there were no telltale signs of exhaust leaks from it even at that point.

However, I would consider replacing the one between the turbo and o2 housing, I have had that one fail from not replacing it... but again, it failed after having it apart I'd say 2 or 3 times. I'd buy a new one of those

If its the new Megan downpipe you can use a stock "doughnut" and it will seal up good, if its the older style like I think you have (03-04) the supplied doughnut can be reused just keep an eye on it, mine never did actually fail either after more times removing than I care to recall (lol) but it does crunch down alot when you first assemble it so just keep an eye on it

Please explain to me how you use a torque wrench to torque exhaust manifold nuts on an Evo?

yeah for a piece of mind i end up getting new gaskets an ordered new nuts, bolt and washers. Might as well do it right the first time. Btw are you guys using thread lock liquid on your bolts and nuts??

Definitly not... in fact I use anti-seize on them

Swivel extensions. I did it. Now that my Full Race manifold just came in, that one actually looks like its easier to get to the bolts to torque em.

I have taken off my exhaust manifold probably 7-10 times now. And I have never replaced the gasket. As long as they look like in great shape there shouldnt be any problems reusing them.

As mentioned earlier follow the correct pattern removing and installing the manifold. Removing start outside going in. Installing start inside going out.
