Slight grinding first few gears

Hey guys, first off I recently purchased an 06 EVO 9 GSR, currently at 68,000miles. I have probably driven 3k since I had it.

I have searched and read many of the forums for grinding gear issues. I find I grind/is notchy shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd quickly or at higher RPMS.

If I shift a bit slower and really make sure the revs are matching up when I shift it seems to be pretty smooth. One thing I have noticed now that its pretty cold here in the winter (Canada) easily -15 to -25 F the car shifts fast no problem when its cold, once the car warms up a bit it becomes an issue again? Weird because I have been reading people having problems when its cold and then fine when the car warms up. My first guess would be the syncros?

I don't have a garage so my ability to work on the car in the winter is limited however the first thing I want to try is changing the tranny fluid. A lot of people I see recommend Amsoil? What viscosity is best, 75W-90?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

75W90, reason is simply this oil being a multiviscocity it wil flow better in cold much better than a straigh 90

What doesn't make sense to me is how shifting operates so much smoother when the card is cold and just started and becomes a problem when warm? Is the currently fluid failing under temperature? Can syncros be affected by temperature like this? Something expanding or contracting slightly?

Yea I had the problem only when it was cold...hmm? I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the the syncros r bad. Your best bet would be like you said to change the tranny fluid and see of that helps

You may want to check the adjustment on your clutch pedal as well. If the release/engage point is near the floor you might not be fully disengaging the clutch. But it is strange that it happens when warm and not cold.

I thought about the clutch pedal as well but it doesn't seem to engange until closer to the top of the pedal but I will play with some adjusting there after the fluid. Thanks
