Using penzoil synchromesh
Hey Guys I was wondering how many of you are running penzoil synchromesh. I am somewhat confused. Some people say that it's good to run and other people are advising me its not great to run.
Reasons for it being bad
Because it has friction modifiers I suppose this actually is harder on the bearings and stuff inside the trans. I was told you should only run penzoil if your trans shifts badly or grinds is this true?
Would I be better off just to run the regular valvoline 75w90 from autozone vs the penzoil synchromesh?
Or what do you guys recommend?

I'm not quite sure ... I've run the Penz with about a 15k mile per change interval with no problems. I do note that it does get old, probably with all of the gear shearing, and fresh works really well.
I've always had a munchy 2nd gear, and finally got that fixed from Shep. I'll let you know as soon as I put the tranny back in.
Its my understanding that we can't run GL5 based because of the additive package that would damage our brass syncros. GL4 comes in a few flavors recommended: Penz Syncromesh, GM Syncromesh (same product, different bottle), MT90 (Redline) I think ... somebody chime in here, OEM, and a couple of others.
Shep I think strongly recommends MT90, which is what I'll be putting in. Its a little pricey, but I think really shines in its stability.

I've used the Pennzoil for about four years with no problem. The trans felt better when I first switched. I don't really flog the gears, so my opinion isn't the most informed. If you want an opinion based on experience, I would ask Chad at CBRD.
I have used penzoil in my vw and it was great. I also ran redline shock proof and will never touch that stuff again. In my evo i am running ams oil throughout the drivetrain and it has been great

im a big amsoil supporter and i use their stuff for every part of my car.. but after switching from lightweight shockproof to amsoil i gotta say the redline stuff is much better for it.
Oh brother. Get that post count up buddy.
Anyways. I have used Pennzoil Syncromesh in my trans soley for the past what like 6 years and 130k miles. 100% OEM tranny.
Car gets driven hard, makes big power, and shifts awesome. I would never put anything else in my trans until it gets rebuilt then I will ask what the builder what I should run.

There is no best.

I either run the Evo MR fluid or the Redline cocktail mix. The cocktail seems the best so far.
As for Synchromesh I was instructed not to run it with my built transmission. From Jacks Transmissions site:

DO NOT use Synchromesh, BG Synchroshift I or II, or Royal Purple. These fluids will destroy synchros and gears and void your warranty!
