Are adjustable cam gears needed?

Could someone tell me if adjustable cam gears are needed for hks 272's? would gains still be seen when using stock cam gears?

Thanks.

Not needed, with gears you can move your powerband though.

most cams are designed to be set straight up and there is no need for a adjustable cam gear out set of aesthetics unless you need to move your powerband to the left or right for how your car is set up

Gears dont change the "gains" in specific, cam profile does

Gears will affect it slighty as most are lighter than stock but nothing major and hks guarantees like 60 horses after installing the 272s and a tune.

I installed HKS 272/272's on my Evo, which is running the stock IX turbo, and I saw a significant loss in low range power, but a nice extra 25hp in the higher rpm range. My advice is to get adjustable cam gears, you will need them to shift your powerband to a lower range with the 272's, they will slow down your spool-up process a small amount as well. Regardless, cams need to be dialed in and degreed correctly, and sometimes shifted one way or another to better suit your current setup/tune.
