*HELP* Clutch job TOB issue! FML

So after being a complete dumb a$$ and not reinstalling the wave spring on my exedy triple a month ago I am finally getting back to taking it apart. Well just my luck in my worthless attempts at getting the damn tob to release from the clutch, both of the ears on the old tob have popped off. WTF!?!?!? Does anyone have any advice. I am probably one of a few lucky people this has happened to.

you have to have someone push the clutch for so that the TOB is all the way against the clutch, once its there take a long flathead screwdriver and put it between the TOB and the spring clip, hold the fork where its at and twist the screwdriver and it should pop off. Might take a could tries. Best way is from the round inspection cover on the bottom of the bellhousing and shine a light in from one of the holes on the top. If you cant get it let me know and I can try to help you more. Shoot me a PM if you want.

if "both of the ears on the old tob have popped off." than where is the problem? just continue with the transmission removal than once the tranny is dropped u can worry about taking the throw out bearing off..

Maybe im miss understanding what you're trying to say but if the throw out bearing isn't attached the the clutch fork than it is attached to the clutch ?

Yeas the ears popped off, but the fork is still too big to slide past the tob. I read in another thread that people are starting to just take their clutches apart from the inspection cover. So that is what I did. Now just dealing with the reset of the job. Don't get me wrong, I love my Evo, but the drive train design is retarded. I can do a Subaru clutch in 3 hours. Evo is more like 3 days.

MY brother has an 05 wrx. with 07sti drivetrain, I've done it numerous times quite a few clutches

and the first time i did my tranny all i did was B**** about how stupid the evo drivetrain was designed haha. its all good tho, once u do it the first time, it gets easier and easier, last time i repaired my wave clip on my car took 4 hours with a friend

it sucks but........

if you cant get the tob to release due to the fork coming off of it,
get the old handy allen keys out and loosen the PP bolts one by one thru the fork passage on the front of the trans then go turn the crank slowly as you get to each one

I just did mine take the tranny off with the clutch attached. Of course you have to split the basket from the flywheel first. My retaining ring was broke so i would have never got the tob off. Called ams 30 bucks for the new basket and retaining ring 5 minutes of work to put it in and i put the clutch back the same way. Hope it helps u need anymore help pm me
