Replacing Evo9 Clutch for $1800 reasonable??
if you plan on keeping the evo and doing some mods later down the line, Try to set a weekend out and turn some wrenches. You will learn alot about your evo. feel free to pm for any questions. theres a thread "how to change a clutch" which is very helpful.
@WolfsFang That's what I just said earlier, if i mess something up, there will be more money to fix... and I know I'm gonna mess something up because I've tried doing something and most of the time I will mess it up (talking about my old cars), not that every single time i fail, but just not risking it on my evo...
my car has similar power modifications as yours. i went with the exedy HD "stage 1" (i hate that stage crap but it has a ~2700lb clamp load) clutch rated for 402 ft/lbs of torque and exedy chromoly flywheel and have been happy with the combo. it has held up to a year of autoX with no issues so far. but i am not drag racing or abusing the clutch on launches.
it has been a great combo for daily driver and for a weekend AutoXer. I put this in after my Exedy "Stage 2" died due to improper installation from the place the former owner had it installed. to make a long story short if the factory flywheel is resurfaced too much your new 3 puck clutch will only last 6 months...
when i was doing the math on whether to do the job myself it was $500+ clutch and flywheel to have a local shop do the work (VS motorsports). figure in all the fluids and it was really closer to $350 in labor after you add in the diaqueen, GL5, & ATF for ACD.
for $350 someone else could deal with it, and i would have someone else to yell at if something failed prematurely.
dropped the car off the night before and it was ready to be picked up the next day when i was off work. saved myself from a saturday swearing at my car.

ın your country(usa) labor ıs very expensıve
i changed my clutch last week with 150$for labor
but ın our country parts are expensıve
if i bought oem clutch set w/flywheel from mıtsubıshı they want 1700$
because of that, i buy parts from usa and my friend who lives in san diego, send it to me to turkey
shipping to Turkey costs 150$ for clutch kit and it takes 3 days
good deal i think

Thanks for the offer but i think that's a little bit too extreme for me. All i want is something like stage 1 and a light weight flywheel, that's all, hoping to get it around $700-$850. i don't think i need that kind of clutch... do i??
Do you need it? Not at all. But I guarantee no clutch will feel as smooth and shift as quick as the Excedy triple disk. I mean this thing is easier than stock to drive with, no lie.

i just don't have that kind of money to spend. basic clutch should do me good since i only drive it to work and hang out. not really for track.
just saving for wedding...

We are normally around 1250 for parts/labor/gear oil + tax (in WA).
