Difference in Evo 4 to 8 drivetrain?
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this??
I'm thinking the engine is the same(minus sensors, hoses)
Someone I know is trying to buy a shell and put this drivetrain in it.
The trans and transfercase?? Same gearing??Of course Non ACD.
Thanks for any input.

He's gonna need the evo 8 transfer case and driveshaft. Also all the evo 8 rear sub assembly stuff. Also he may need the two side motor/tranny mounts, I'm pretty sure the other mounts are the same. They actually share quite a few components. It all depends on how much of each he has.
-the harness is pretty different, and will be RHD instead of LHD.
-injectors are smaller
-you will need to do some wiring to make an Evo 8 ECU work (to pass emissions, evo 4 is OBD I)
-the turbo is smaller
-I'm pretty sure the transfercase is smaller, im not sure if it will bolt into place or not. There is no ACD though.
-Driveshaft is a different length IIRC
The whole rear suspension is different from 4 to 5 (10mm narrower, steel control arms, etc). 5-8 will work though
-axles may be 10mm too narrow (have to check though)
-02 Sensor has no heater element
Thats all I can think of off the top of my head

If you use an Evo 4 Transfer case, you will need the evo 4 Rear Diff.
If using an Evo 7 to 9 Transfer, you need an Evo 7 to 9 rear end.
Reason:
The Evo 4 to 6 had an different Transfer ratio ( Hypoid gear set ) than the Evo 7 to 9 Transfers.

Thanks guys, I'll let him know.
It's a shell (2003 Evo 8) with wiring and ECU still there. Rear end still there too.
He just wanted to make sure at least some things would work.
He said he did something similar with a Subaru, but things didn't match up at all,LOL

Please don´t forget the Evo4 engine is not such good as 5 and onwards.
It has issues with crancwalk.
Injectors are smaller but there is no huge difference.
Subframes are smaller as written above
Front diff is open (can cause inner wheel spin in turn) - Evo 5 onwards changed to LSD type
I´m missing point put Evo 4 internals on Evo 8 sorry
