Removed Heater Core: Need to recirculate lines?
I tried searching but no dice. Long story short I removed all the HVAC items in my car. Since I removed the heater core I have two loose coolant lines (the ones that run through the fire wall into unit). What are most guys doing after they remove the heater core. Re-ciculating the lines? Capping them off?
Thanks Tim

i had mine leaking so i just left it in the dash and took the one line and recirculated it so the core was getting no coolant. then i saved money and replaced the core when i could. btw was a decent size job to replace but i saved a ton of money instead of takin it to the dealer.
Just get a piece if 5/8" heater hose and loop it from the 2 fittings on the water pipe behind the engine. Pretty simple and u can also eliminate the lines to the throttle body if you want.
Something to consider here:
1. If you loop the line from the water pipe to the thermostate housing, you are "short circuiting" some of the coolant flow around the radiator. It is no longer transfering heat into the radiator and will raise the motor inlet temps.
2. If you block the lines, when the thermostat is closed during warmup, the only place the water has to circulate through is the turbo and throttle body (provided it still has the coolant lines attached).
I'd block the lines then add a hole into the thermostat to bypass it during warm up to allow some coolant circulation. Or loop the lines and put a restrictor in there to reduce how much coolant bypasses the radaitor. The later will allow it to warm up quicker but potentially raise operational temp some.
