Heater Core bad? Coolant leak/smell inside cabin

Ok so I searched and found one thread that may lead to what is causing this problem. I think I figured it is the Heater Core about to go but I want to make sure before I start tearing the entire dash out from anyone having experienced the same issue.

So it is starting to get cool here and recently had the heater run a bit. 2 days ago while driving, I feel water fall on my right foot while driving. So I am thinking, I just washed the car the day b4 and somehow some water got inside through the firewall. I noticed the smell has the rounchy smell of antifreeze. I drove the car back home and noticed there is water/antifreeze(mainly clear though) coming from the overflow hose which is located on the firewall of the car behind the engine inside the engine bay.. It is a small black hose that is curved to point in a downward direction. The leak however continues also inside right above the accelerator pedal where the 2 metal lines that connect to the Heater Core are located. The 2 lines are metal and are surrounded by a white plastic piece which is where the heater core is I believe.

I already bought an extra Heater Core from a member here so its on the way. My buddy pressure tested the Radiator and it is holding pressure ok but slowly losing it. The car is not overheating and maintains proper temp.

So my question is... is the Heater Core about to go or could it be just a hose? If it was a hose than it would not be dumping out of the relief hole which is in the firewall of the engine bay right?

I am afraid to drive the car as if it is the Heater core and it totally goes, I am going to have a mess inside the cabin of the car when all the antifreeze comes pouring out of it.

So my question is... is the Heater Core about to go or could it be just a hose? If it was a hose than it would not be dumping out of the relief hole which is in the firewall of the engine bay right?

Anyone have any similar problems and any help would be appreciated

its all hard line after the firewall. so if its leaking its not from a soft line.

An ex GF of mine had an 04 RS and her the Heater Core went out. Same deal coolant on drivers floor. Mitsu did the job as the car was still under warranty but told us there was a crack in core.

You can always bypass it for now just run in and out coolant hoses together. You'll have no heat until you fix it but at least it won't **** coolant into the car.

can you explain how you would both of these to hoses together? aren't these hoses behind the firewall ? or in the engine bay?

there are two soft lines in the engine compartment behind the intake manifold. You can loop it there to stop the leak for now

Buy looping the heater core in and out, how do you fasten the two together, if that's what you mean. The reason I ask is because I'm taking mine out all together. Simply for weight savings for now, but possibly I'll put it back in, in the future. So in my case could I plug the line where it comes out in back of the head? So I don't have hoses hanging out for no reason and to clean the bay up.

I've done this in some cars for various reasons.

It's simple to loop it. You just need a barbed fitting, male to male of the diameter of the inlet and outlet hoses. Use clamps and you're set. You may want to check for air pockets in the cooling system. Just bleed the radiator and you're good to go, until winter. Then you're going to freeze your n*tz off!
