Big vs Small throttle body
Aaron was that Jessee's car?
For the money I would stick to the 65mm MilSpec. I may be going to a 4.5" FMIC and 3" UICP and 70-75mm throttle body in the future but I'm not looking for much of a gain honestly. I would be happy with 10whp. My goal is to make the most power on the lowest boost.

), and lost power with a ported head because he thought the turbo was already at it's limits.I already have a 3" UICP, so I'm planning on going ahead and getting a 75mm TB so I don't have a neck down in the piping there.
Yes we tested it at the full range on the car on both pumpgas and racegas. If you already have it keep it but I would be surprised if it really stepped up a bunch....we certainly didnt see massive gains.
We have seen losses on ported heads too, mismatched combos, bad port jobs, cams that dont work with the headflow, etc. As much testing as we do and as much as we did on this car I really think we covered our bases in that dept though.

james im in the same boat as you, im using the DI small plenum manifold with a buschur 65mm TB. i think it will work great on the street too, but i dont mind lag it just makes for more fun!

ya lag makes it fair for everyone else, lol. i guess we will see what falls into my lap and that will decide what im getting as far as throttle bodys go this year
In the next 2 weeks I'm testing the following on my Evo X in stages on the dyno:
1) Larger Plenum Intake Manifold with stock TB and 2.5" cold side piping
2) Larger Plenum Intake Manifold with 75mm TB and 2.5" cold side piping
3) Larger Plenum Intake Manifold with 75mm TB and 3.0" cold side piping
The Intake Manifold in stages 2 and 3 will be a second one that I'm having a 75mm inlet and flange welded onto.
We'll see once and for all if these upgrades will make any difference on a 550-650 crank HP setup. Possibly I might test 2.75" cold side piping since a ~70mm pipe probably flows similar to a 75mm TB when you consider the TB shaft going through the middle.

you ever get to this? i'd love to see the results...
Hey guys.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but most of this discussion covers larger intakes and throttles on a 2.0L
Has anyone looked at the effect a manifold and throttle would have on a 2.3/2.4L? Looking at a few builds, it seems that the larger engine responds to the larger intake/throttle MUCH better then the 2.0L...

bigger the motor and the higher the power, the more you will gain. on a stock motor with a mall turbo, total waste of money. on a 2.3 or 2.4 with 700hp? you will see a lot more gains.
