evo 8 3rd gear grinds
evo 8 3rd gear grinds
i have a 2003 evo8 with 55k miles all stock and once in awhile while shifting into 3rd gear it will grind. im just driving normal not getting on the car or anything and i make sure the clutch is in the whole way. anybody have the same problem or know what this is?
what is the side effect of not rebuilding and just dealing with the grinding for a long time? My eclipse would grind into 3rd and i just kept on driving it like that for like a year

First try to adjust the clutch pedal to disengage the clutch more in between the shift. Also change tranny fluid to bg syncroshift 2 or try the redline mixture of mtl and mt90.
If not pull the tranny replace the clutch and do a basic rebuild. Downsides to grinding its going to cause more wear

Mine did the same in 3rd... I would baby it and do an extra rev to avoid the grind. Eventually my 2nd gear started to do the same, so I had it rebuilt. My advice would be:
1. Adjust the clutch to engage higher, flush & replace fluids, bleed clutch line.
2. When that doesn't work, have it rebuilt & do the clutch, flywheel, throw out bearing, lines, etc, all at once to save money on labor.
FYI - the more you grind it, the better chance of having to replace a gear or 2, which will get expensive fast.

My trans is just notchy as hell, feels like its grinding but isn't. I'm gonna try a few things but i'm also gonna adjust my clutch because if its not pressed all the way sometimes it will grind.
Check the condition of your motor mounts. Bad ones can cause movement that makes shifting a problem. Also check your shifter bushings.
my friend has a Ford Merkur and he doesn't have a third gear because he grinded it out. Gotta shift from 2nd to 4th
and that was the car i learned to drive manual in too
