Cool ATS Triple Plate Carbon Clutch pics!

Here you go folks. The FIRST ATS triple plate carbon clutch built for the GDB/GDF STi 6 speed trans. Very smooth and can handle 1000 HP. I have to break it in this weekend. It is available for the EVO VIII which is why I posted this here. I chose the 1100 kg pressure plate. A 1300 kg is available as well as the twin plate and the new Pro-Spec single carbon clutch with carbon lining on the pressure plate.

For the EVO the entire assembly is 11.5 kg, the stock assembly is 13.2 kg. If you want light the Pro Spec is the lightest at 7.2 kg. The twin's are 10.5 kg. The clutch is actually carbon composite as carbon-carbon can not handle as much power and is more expensive. This way it lasts longer, has higher heat capacity (over 3000 degrees) and of course is fully rebuildable. It is actually really easy to drive. Yes it is aggressive take up but pedal pressure is not that heavy and there is some give to it for sure. No chatter. The plates rattle VERY slightly when you have the clutch pushed in. If I had a radio in this car I sincerely doubt I'd ever notice. The twin plate is a bit noisier. They also have a "soft type" with a different metal intermediate plate material which allows more give, softer feel and less noise but it is not recommended for drag. It is made for street car folks and you lose 20-30% holding capacity over regular type like mine.

by looking at the parts this looks like a push type clutch. It looks like it comes with the necessary parts to convert to push instead of pull type clutch release.

Yes it does convert to push type and comes with new slave on the WRX applications (USDM cars are a bit different than JDM spec). We were the ones that figured that out and are the ones that test fitted this one for the US market. As for pricing it varies a bit by application but for EVO's it is $1420 for the Pro Spec Single, $1950 for the twin plate and $2250 for the triple plate. The triple plate is recommended since it is smoother, quieter, and best feel of the three. It can handle 1000 HP with the lighter 1100 pressure plate and 700 HP in the "soft" version which is for folks who drive in traffic everyday and want something closer to stock in give and feel.

For those who don't know, Active Traction Service (ATS) is of supreme quality. Some of their products just blow the mind: carbon fiber brake rotors, carbon differentials, carbon clutches. Just some amazing stuff.

Dan, let us know how you like this work of art.

I love it so far. REALLY smooth. Never driven a multi plate like this. I also have carbon LSD for my Toyota. One of these days I'll install it as it needs it. REALLY nice LSD's as well.

STi is going under the knife next week and the week after for the GT35R turbo. Hooptie, if you are looking for a triple plate I'll give you special price if you post a review. I feel confident that there is not a better clutch out there anywhere in terms of both drivability and durability.
