The term hotside, generally refers to the "hot", or exhaust side of a turbocharger, as opposed to the "cold", or compressor side. On the EvoM forums, the term "hotside" usually refers only to the turbine housing itself and not the complete hotside which should include the turbine housing, plus the turbine wheel. Thus, if you were to go onto the For Sale ads and see a 10.5 hotside, this would really only be the turbine housing and not the actual complete hotside incluing the turbine wheel.

A Red will come with a machined turbine housing to fit the larger than stock turbine wheel.

The FP Red is a stock replacement turbo. The original 64mm Red will bolt right up to a stock, factory exhaust manifold/O2 housing/DP/factory intake/MAF pipe. If you have an VIII this original 64mm Red will bolt right up to your stock exhaust manifold and downpipe. And you can use mostly the stock oil and coolant lines with slight tweaking.

Since the original 64mm Red comes configured with a IX compressor housing you will also need to purchase a IX "J" pipe and if you dont want to bend the stock VIII oil and water lines....then you'll have to purchase theIX oil and water lines. FP sells an installation kit which includes the J pipe and the fluid lines.

The Red can also be configured with a larger, proprietary FP anti-surge, ported compressor housing. This anti surge housing requires some additional intake mods such as a step down silicone intake hose adapter.

I'm buying the turbo off a member and it was on a Evo 9. He says it's a 64 mm red. I'm guessing by a non original u mean the 80 sum mm right

As usual, Kracka is right. The Red can look like a stone stock turbo externally(64mm version). On the inside though the guts have been enlarged. Both the compressor and turbine wheels have larger than stock major and minor diameters. This turbo flows pretty much like a 3076.

Right. Is he selling it complete with the IX J pipe and oil/water lines? If not, then you will need to purchase those separately to mate the new turbo up to your VIII. The Red turbine housing will bolt right up to your stock VIII exhaust manifold and any VIII O2 housing option, stock or aftermarket. However, the 64mm Red has a stock IX compressor housing so you will need the IX compressor discharge tube("J" pipe), and the oil and water feed and return lines for an Evo IX to make it all fit. The IX "J" pipe and the IX oil and water feed and return lines are available for about $70 at the Mitsu Dealership's parts desk.

I've gotta buy the adapter kit I'm getting just the turbo. As long as I don't need the machined turbine housing I'm happy.

He is selling you a complete FP 64mm Red turbo right? He is not selling you a partial turbo sans(w/o) a turbine housing....right?

A complete and integral 64mm Red turbo will bolt right up on the exhaust side to any VIII, or IX Evo exhaust manifold.

Is he selling you the complete turbo configured with both housings? Don't freak me out! As I get scared easily?

A stock, unaltered MHI 10.5 turbine housing will not accept the larger diameter turbine wheel of the FP Red internally. FP "cuts" the stock 10.5 turbine housings internally to accept the Red's larger diameter turbine wheel. The outer configuration remains the same, so the Red's housing's footprint aligns with the factory manifold and the housing's discharge aligns with a stock/or aftermarket O2 housing.
