P0011 - cam sensor removal and check? Need to rotate 180*???

I'm throwing the P0011 code so I pulled the cover to my cam sensor to see if I could tell if the sensor was installed 180* out. However, now that I have the cover off I am unsure of how to properly pull the sensor. Can somebody who has dealt with this before please give me a step by step on what I need to do here?

I've searched the other threads on this issue and didn't find a clear how-to on properly installing the cam sensors.

Thanks

Tell us some history on your car. Did you just change cams out recently?

P0011 is "A" Camshaft position Timing Over Advanced. I would suspect possibly the cam gear is a tooth off rather then cam is 180* out.

Check your PM's.

I've read a number of times on this board that this code will pop up when the cam sensor isn't installed correctly. My car had cams installed just before I bought it and when I bought it I knew there was an issue regarding the cam install. To make a long story short...just assume this is a recent cam install done by a shop that won't warranty their work. Until I know how to correctly pull the sensor and check it's orientation I can't eliminate that being a possible reason for the code...right?

I must have this posted in the wrong section or perhaps my thread title was misleading. I know there are plenty of people here that have done cam installs and know about the fact that the cam sensor can be installed 180* out. Since I didn't do the cam install I'm not familiar with the procedure. I don't want to just go pull the sensor not knowing whether I may need to follow some precautionary step. Anyone???

FWIW, I have pulled my cam gear cover and my timing marks are aligned properly.

If you read through this cam install thread on Evomoto it will explain the cam alignment
to sensor relationship.

Granted this is an Evo 8 install guide but the cam angle sensors line up the same.

P0011 is MIVEC slow to respond. Look for a clogged feed solenoid or low oil pressure. Mitsu will throw a P0365 if its out of range or over advanced normally. 0011 is almost never the over advanced in the "normal" OBD designation.

Generally system performance

Thanks! This is probably more likely in my case since my car was down for quite a while. Likewise, the PO used the car for racing on the weekends primarily so over-advanced cam may not be out of the question either.

Glad Aaron chimed in. He's the man on this kinda stuff. I had ironically thrown a P0011 myself a few weeks ago. It was the result of a poor idling car. Got my car to idle smoother and the code has not returned.

Anyone found a direct answer to this? Has anyone found that this causes the car to sputter or hit a wall at wot? I'm having the same issue light goes on for a few miles then goes off again. Any help would be appreciated!
