Evo IX MR or SE/RS due to tranny?

In the market for a IX. I know buying a car like this used is a risk to some degree but I'm prepared to buy a warranty. i'm mostly worried about some comments I've read regarding the MR's 6speed being so unworth it, that its better to either plan to have a 5-speed or just buy the RS or SE if you can find one. How much overstatement is there in this?

At the price range I'm looking I'm into an 06 with relatively high (60-80,000) miles or super high mileage 07. Looked into salvage so then i could not sell my current car and work on this one, but then i'd still need around 10,000 at least. Unless someone knows something i dont.

I wish i had another car to drive so i could leisurely rebuild an engine and become immersed in this cars core but i just dont have that kind of money and I can't take a $700 some payment right now so...

really depends on what your plans are for the car. High HP dragster or DD commuter. btw, i would skip buying a warranty since they are wayyyy overpriced and just put that money away in a "just in case" account.

Well, knowing japanese cars I was thinking that the price of a warranty, usually around 1800, wouldnt go very far if anything did happen... but you make a good point... i'm a bit paranoid buying a used turbo is all, lol.

DD is the goal. I like fast, but I'm not tracking it... this is pure fun and relaxation, well i feel relaxed speeding around like crazy personally. I certainly plan to do at least some bolt ons, nothin too crazy or that i would need new internals for, of course best laid plans lol. Unless it dies, then why not. Buy a $1000 beater and work on it i guess.

whenever you do find a car that you like, make sure to take it to a reputable shop. Preferably one that specializes in evos to give it a thorough inspection. Do some searching on this site and you will find loads of info for your exact situation.

I definitely will. I'm looking around the region and I dont think I'll find an Evo specialist i did find some performance shops. Thanks for the info and I am ever searching the site, lol, that whole 6speed thing just made me wonder if maybe i should just avoid the MR altogether.

ix's were not made in 2007 so we will start there

if you aren't road racing or throwing 450+ wtq at it...the MR 6 speed is just fine

beyond that...you clearly need to spend some time searching
