Manifold Design Idea
Manifold Design Idea
So I am debating on a new custom tubular manifold design for my evo engine . So far this design seems best looking as far as strength, flow and heat retension go. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried something like this . I will be running the half sized radiator to open up some room in between the front of the turbo and the car, just wondering if when the t3 garrett turbo is on there if it will stick up past the valve cover making clearance issues with the hood and if I should try this or not.

Not sure the Log manifold is a good design for the Evo, or any car for that matter. Wastegate location is poor and restricted. Exhaust gasses wont flow very nicely. I think this would be more of a hinderence than a stock manifold.
Only thing I can say cause ive never really dynoed the diference on previous hondas ive owned but ive ran log and tubular. Tubular equal def seems to flow better and faster spool. If log was better I would think big name companys like full race and others would sell them with the kits, but tubular has def proved to be better. I could be wrong, that was with a honda I run a ram horn manifold on the evo and seems great to me.
And the spot were you have the wastegate, I would think you would want closer to the turbo were all the runners come to 1. Right now its really only acting as an escape port for that 1 runner
Log manifolds are good for setups where space is at a premium. They suffer from inefficiency though....there is no smooth merge into the collector as you would find on an equal length manifold. Instead of gasses being fed into the exhaust volute of the turbo, you are forcing them to make a 90 degree turn to enter the volute. That kills gas velocity, which inherently hurts scavenging as well. There are a few other detrimental things that manifold style will give as well, such as not having the wastegate on the collector. If you have no choice but to run a log manifold, then by all means do(it looks like you have a 3g eclipse). However, if you have space then do yourself a huge favor and get a real tubular manifold.
Okay cool Thanks. Those are the comments I were looking for. The engine is currently in my 3g eclipse But plan on buying an evo shell to build as well with the engine possibly in like a year or so. Definately gonna be going with tubular now. Thanks for the advice and help.

The stock evo 8 manifold isnt flanged for a t 3 flange. I need the t3 style flange and my main concern with tubular manifolds is cracking which with this design idea I was trying to prevent. As far as what I will be going with goes, I'm not going to go with it. it was just an idea. Thanks for all the advice though . I think I'm going to look into the JM fab manifold.
You are in Ohio......that makes us close by, wanna go fast? Call us!
The log design sucks, we built exactly what you have pictured for the Scion TC's per request of another company and they private labeled them. Yes they will mount a turbo and work but they suck compared to what we have available form your EVO.

Thats cool. but yea I'm deployed right now so the only communication I have is internet and The wifi is too limited for like magic jack phone so prolly not gonna be able to call you guys up. I looked you guys up and yea I'm only like 3-4 hours drive south so i was going to bring my head up and have you guys do the machine work for fitting it to the 4g64 bottom end As well as I guess get a manifold too since you guys can make them possibly. The turbo I purchased and plan on running is the garrett gt2871 bb. Because I had planned on just keeping the setup in my fwd eclipse and could possibly upgrade to gt35 later on .
