What to do with spare engine that spun a rod?
What to do with spare engine that spun a rod?
Whatsup EvoM,
I replaced my engine a few weeks ago and I have a spare engine that had a rod knock. I was wondering how much will it cost to rebuild? Is it worth rebuilding? I was wondering if i was to sell it how much will i get out of this? Any advice would be great.

This motor probably doesn't need much to put it back in running shape. Buy a cheap engine stand. Disassemble it at you leisure. Clean all the galleries where engine metal could have collected. Clean or replace the oil pump. Look the parts over for wear.
It probably needs some bearings and maybe a crank. Now, you have the ultimate spare part.

In a hurry, I once needed a transmission for a dsm. I called a rebuilder but he didn't have a core. So, I bought new from Mitsu. Then I called the rebuilder again an sold my old transmission to him so he would have a core for the next guy. After shipping, I think I made fifty buxs on the deal.

^^^haha i was just thinkin the same thing, thats what two of my friends did when they blew up there trophy truck v8 engine out on a desert run, its not a coffee table in there recording studio haha...all you need is a big round piece of glass, put it on top of where the head would go....or if you wanna secure it down mark on the glass where its gonna go on the table, and have holes drilled where the head stud threads are on it, and then install it on there tighten it down a bit and voila...a gearheads coffee table haha
You probably have not hurt the block. The crank may be damaged on the journal where the rod is knocking. To repair/rebuild you would probably want to use aftermarket forged rods, and new pistons, and would need to bore the block. That would cost some change.
You could probably sell the block by itself as is for $400-$500 if it has not been damaged.
