I just noticed few hours ago that when my car is cold, downshifting from 3rd to 2nd the car make a weird nose and goes away when its warms up. any ideas on what the problem could be? old tranny fluid maybe? i have 44,000 miles. thanks in advance.

Synchros going bad? is it hard to get into gear when its cold like that? is it just on decel? or acel to?

 

no difference in shifting at all... not hard to get into gear. noise is just on decel.

 

i guess i need to visit the dealer

 

when was the last time you changed the fluids in the transmission and transfer case?

 

post a video of the noise, I think I have the same problem on an evo 7, it's being looked at right now so I will update this thread when I hear back from the mechanic.

The noise sounds like a rattle at decel right? and when standing in neutral, the noise is present and goes away when you step on the clutch?

 

video won't do because the noise is very mild.

 

i got the car over a year ago with 34000 miles i have 44 now and i have no idea if the previous owner changed it. I was thinking about starting by changing the transmission fluid.

 

no mine is when i down**** from 3rd to 2nd once the clotch engages it goes away.

 

Ok lets recap, you're asking people to diag a "weird noise" you have no description of AND you have no idea of the service history of the car???

Change the fluids, it's most likely a synchro wearing out.
