Downside to having a Resonator?

Is there one? Performance wise that is.

Exhaust wont flow quite as well. IMHO, that effect is probably minimal when running 3" exhaust on a warmed over evo

A resonator is just a muffler. If you have a really good flowing resonator (like a Dynomax race bullet) it probably won't hurt flow much, but it will add weight.

the purpose of the resonator is to deaden the sound.
