Voltage Problem

Seem to be having a voltage problem, I have been doing some work on the interior taking things out to have painted and seats to be recovered. Started the car today and for some reason after checking the voltage at the battery it reads 12.1 volts when the car is running, the more stuff I turn on the voltage drops on my hand held volt meter. When you turn the car off it reads 12.4 volts. Any ideas what could be wrong, it has a new battery in it. Car has just been sitting in the garage since I am doing work to it, I checked all this a couple of weeks ago and it was at 14.4 volts while the car was running. Any suggestions of what it could be? Thanks.

I'd check easy things first...

Battery cables tight...
ground Not loose.

Checked those things and they are good, nothing was touched in the engine bay from when it read 14.4v a few weeks ago to now. Only took things out of the interior, dash cluster, console, seats, hvac, etc.

Hey guys so I figured this out today on my own, if you have the dash cluster out it wont read 14.4 volts. I put the dash cluster back in and it reads 14.4, unplug the dash cluster and it drops back down in the 12 volt range. Must be something to do with the ECU. Just wanted to follow up in case this happends to anyone else.
