Intake Snorkle Test by Boosted Tuning
Does this thing help when using an open filter......?

I have always liked how the engine bay looks without the snorkel, but I have always liked function over form more. After seeing some really clean engine bays and seeing that 99.9% of them do NOT run the snorkel, I started thinking about taking mine off to have cleaner looking engine bay. When thinking about taking it off, I starting thinking about how functional it actually is. I searched around to see if anyone had the answer. Upon finding nothing, I decided to test it for myself.
The testing was done in the middle of the day, with an ambient temp of 70*. I did 3 back to back pull without the snorkle, pulled off the road, installed the snorkel and did 3 more pulls. All pulls were in 3rd gear. All pulls were taken within 5 minutes of each other. The logs were constant, with each set of pulls being 3* within each other. I averaged the pulls, then plotted the data against RPM. Below are the findings...

In conclusion, it seems that the snorkle does help some. I will be keeping it on now
Stay tuned for Boosted Tuning's next test, The MBC Shootout, where I will be testing the FORGE UNOS, the new Grimmspeed MBC, the Hallman and the Buschur Racing Inline MBC against each other to see what one spools fastest and what one holds boost the best.

When i see these results I always wonder what the actual temp difference is after the air has gone through the turbo and intercooler. If you have a good intercooler the difference could be near 0.

I dont know if I would say that. I have used the FORGE UNOS, the hallman and Turbo XS one, and I liked the FORGE the best and currently use it. But I never did any actually testing, so we will see.
Very interesting to actually see the results of having it vs not having it. Also it would be interesting to take it one step further and add the head light mod and also the snorkle that sits on top of the hood vent to the mix to see how all 4 do against eachother
