Shifting Problem, Had this problem for a LONG time.

Hey,

I have had a problem getting my car into gear for a long time, years actually.

Well, last racing season I broke my transmission. So I sent it to shep for a total fix/rebuild. He also put new synchros in the tranny which I thought might fix the problem.

BUT, I got it back and the samw symptoms occur.

Car shifts fine in and out of every gear if you just sit there with the clutch in not moving.

but when you start moving and go from 1st to 2nd or any other gear it is really notchy to get into gear.

Is it possible that motor mounts are the problem? I have a new clutch, new tranny, I even bought new shifter links to try and cure this problem.

ANY input will help.

thanks,
John

yeah I have followed this. my clutch setup is somewhat different though because of the quartermaster using a hydrolic throw out bearing.

I have put the car in first. held in the clutch and revved the car up to around 7000 rpm's though and it doesnt seem to be dragging.

anyone think it could be a tranny fluid issue?

I'm using 100% redline lightweight shock proof in it. Wonder if I were to mix it if it might help?

I've noticed some people saying to not run straight lightweight shockproof stuff as it is too light for our applications. They mentioned mixing 1 bottle of that with 2 bottles of BG Syncromesh.

I've had pretty good luck with "Redline Cocktail" http://www.maperformance.com/redline...smissions.html

Try that and see if it does any better. If not, at least you have the correct fluid and can move on to other potential causes. Your typical part store should have those in stock.

OP I feel your pain. this plagues the 8th gen Si Civic, and I don't want it on my next car (which will be an Evo) at all. I hope this isn't common on Evos.

i had a similar notchiness when trying to go into gear and i switched to amsoil mtg and the tranny shifted like butter afterwards. the problem returned a little while after but due to a totally unrelated problem involving a bad slave cylinder.

It is. Evo's are known for notchy transmissions. Mine is a pain to get into second in normal driving. Shifts fine at WOT, just not under normal driving.

I purchased my car with 20,000 miles on the odo. 2nd has already given me trouble. It will always go in but not without grinding, or a slight crunch unless I shift real slow. I've been through Amsoil, Redline and OEM with no success. Just nature of the beast I guess.
