Gotta swap motors but dont wanna spend too much cash. What do u guys think would be the best thing to do? What motor options do i have?

number 1 piston hit the plug and all other cylinders have no compression. havent taken the engine out to see the extent of damage but i have a good idea of wat needs to be done if i decide to rebuild. the budget is about 3g and from the looks of it a engine swap seems to be the most efficient way to do it. i thought about upgrading to an mr engine but i dont wanna have to buy an ecu and harness. i gotta 03 rs and was wondering if any of the older evo's would fit. I know wat will fit after 03 but not quite sure on the previous evo's. but yeah the budget is about 3 maybe 3500 and i need to consider shipping to hawaii as well.
