Newly built 2.2 engine use alot of oil...

Hi all

My newbuilt 2.2 Manley stroker use alot of oil. Everthing was new and I started it for first time yesterday. Since I was planning to compete in a dragrace event next weekend, I was not as gentle in the break in as I use to due limited time. I started it, warmed up and checked for leaks. Then I took some pretty light pulls without boost and did engine breaking between them. After I gradually got into boost and have not passed 0.65 bar during break in. It uses alot of oil and it seems like when I am passing 4000 rpm, I can see the smoke. Boost or not does not matter, it smokes anyway.
When removing spark plugs, I can actually see a film on oil on every piston. I use mineral oil as my machine shop recommend and have filed the ring as pr Manleys recommandations.
I have now driven it for about 70-80 miles and it is not getting better. I think it have used about 2-3 liters of oil.(1/2 gallon+)
As I see it now, the only solution is to fit new ring, hone and start all over...

My old 2.3 Eagle/Wiseco stroker was done at the same machine shop and does not use any oil and was still going strong before I changed it with this engine.

Any tips of what I have done wrong?

Thanks

Sounds like the ring gap is alittle to small, or the rings were not installed properly. You will have to open her back up and check everything out. Could also be Valve Stem Seals.
Compression Check or Leakdown test should help you out.

Sucks, i have to open mine back up also. I have a rattle noise at 2500-3krpm

2 quarts seems like a lot for just 80miles, did you check the oil level after you started the engine for the first time? what oil weight are you using?

my new 2.3 motor likes oil i added about 2 quarts in a little over a 1000miles but it has seemed to slow down a bit im guessing cause the rings are seated

just for reference a half gallon = two quarts

Thanks
I am using 10W-30. Seems like the engine need new rings anyway and since the race is next weekend, I went to the dyno anyway... I dont feel I have to much to loose...
Only had a couple of hours and running a EFR 8374 with 0.70-0.75 bar boost it made 298 whp on e85. Will change oil and filter tomorrow and raise the boost if everything still holds up and see how much hp it will make.

Is your pcv recirculated to your intake or open to atmosphere?

this! what are you doing for the breather/pcv system? oil kills the octane of gas, so figure it out before you drive it any more.

pcv is open to atmosphere via a catch tank and have a return to oil pan as well. Have also enlarged the breather hole in the rocker cover. Have not seen any oil out of it yet, but I believe it may come oil out of it when raising the boost further...

Valve seals are new together with valve guides. I did install the rings and valve seals by myself so I believe they are correct, but you never know...
I changed oilfilter and put on new synthetic oil yesterday at the dyno. Did some pulls up to 8000rpm and 1.5 bar boost. Could not boost anymore due the low tension wastegate actuator. Will try with more preload today since I dont have another actuator. Did make 483 whp@1.5 bar. Will try to raise the boost close to 1.8-2.0 bar and raise the rpm limit to 8500-9000 rpm.

have you done a compression or leakdown test yet?

I tried with a compression test, but my tool were leaking a lot so it was useless...
Have to borrow a leakdown tool, but have not done it yet.
Had an hour available at the dyno yesterday with the actuator preloaded alot, but could not get it to boost more than 1.8 bar. Ended up with 535 whp.
