2.4 waterpump spacer/ modded pump questions

Hey all, I've already made the decision to go to a 2.4 long rod and am waiting on my rotating assembly to come in. I know I need to do either a spacer or a modded water pump. I'm just trying to figure out why I need that. does the pump housing hit something? is the pulley just too close to the block? Is it possible to just space out the pulley itself? I've read like 15 threads that discuss the issue, but I still can't figure out what the problem is that the spacer/ modded pump solves.
I'm pretty sure this makes me an idiot. I'm pretty ok with it.

the reason you need a spacer/ modded pump is because the front cooling passage on a 2.4 block is slightly different...with a stock evo pump part of the passage is exposed and water will leak...the spacer just gives the evo pump a footprint like a regular 2.4 pump, which can also be achieved by welding/modding the evo pump..

Why can't you use a 2.4 pump instead of the evo pump? I'm planning on building my 2.4 for something I just don't know if it's gonna get built for a DSM or an evo yet. I wanna start gettin a list of differences between the 2 paths.

Or you can get a modded pump from English Racing (I know BR makes one but they don't sell them unless you are running one of their 2.4's

I know the 2.4 pump lines up with the DSM water pipe. The motor up until about 2 days ago had all dsm parts mocked up to it.

I think I read somewhere that the 4g64 pump does in fact work. When I installed the spacer, I had to grind the mounting hole on my water pipe a little to get it to fit.
