kelford 272 good for my setup?

Hey guys I'm new to this forum, and I jus picked up a evo 8 last week, what has been done to it has been a blowoff valve, exhaust, turbo timer, stage 2 clutch, and intake I think. I'm not wanting to do a lot w the motor, maybe jus cams and a bigger intercooler w a tune,I've done some research and I've found out the kelford 272 are prolly one of the better options for these cars,is this cam setup good for me or is there another option, seeings how I'm not making a hole lot of power? And if the kelford is good for my setup, will I have to but any other parts w it to make it run better,or do I jus install and get a tune? Thanks for the help guys

yes they would be good for your car. you dont NEED springs and retainers with them but i would highly recommend it. and then yeah get a tune after. But before you put those cams in you must realize that your idle is going to be all over and place and the car is not gona drive like stock anymore

Kelfords always fit in nicely for the 8s. However, I suggest the GSC S2's, they work great for me and I have a similar set up on the stock 8 turbo. I suggest also upgrading the valve springs and retainers while you are in there. I tune is then needed after the installation of these parts.

Woah buddy, who made you king of the castle? And the two links you posted are even relevant to his question. The first link is about not bleeding the lifters and getting a tapping noise? I'm pretty sure the OP didn't ask about anything involving him installing the cams himself. And your second link, just lists every cam and it's specs. Maybe the OP is new to modding in general and doesn't know what duration and lift is so he came here to ask a question....no need to fill all high and mighty there.

My personal choice would be: GSC S2 > HKS 280 > Kelford 272

I used to run HKS280 cams and now run Kelfords. While the Kelfords make good power, I haven't been too thrilled with their spoolup. I should've gone with the GSCs or left well enough alone.

While you're having cams installed, I'd also add a set of springs such as the Supertech singles. IMO it's not worth the $ saved to potentially risk floating a valve.

x2.. I bet he was so happy he was the first reply so he can say what he said and tell the mods to close the thread.

To the OP. I run kelfords with pretty much similar mods as you. Intake, full turboback, test pipe, LICP, mbc, amd I went with the kelfords 272 but I have a 9. And after I got the installed and tuned. It makes a difference in power, especially higher end. I didn't really feel any loss of power in the low end of the rev range. But it let's the turbo breathe a little better up top.

I have a 9 as well with basically the same mods, did you upgrade the valve springs and retainers? or did you just get the cams?

thanks

Naw I kept the stock springs and retainers. The shop I went to said stock should be fine if i stay in stock rev range. Knowing myself I don't go past 6500 lol.

its not the cams causing the spoolup that's definitely for sure. i run kelford 272 and get 33psi by 3800rpm on a fp black and 2.3L. i highly doubt the s2 or hks 280 will do better then that.

Kelfords spool fine, they just cause quite a bit of knock above 6k rpm, regardless of valve springs.
