Question Time to replace clutch, what should I get???

Hello,

I am looking to replace my clutch fairly soon, so I need you guys' opinions and perhaps share your first hand experiences on these aftermarket clutches such as Exedy, Cusco, HKS, ACT, and ClutchMasters for EVO. Tell me why this particular clutch is worth the money and what not.

Thanks in advance!

From just browsing these boards, reading "ACTman's" posts, and seeing the price on their products, I'd trust and purchase the ACT setup way before any of the other clutches out there.

Hell, you could buy two ACT clutches for the price of one of most of the other brands.

i love Exedy clutch, i have single disc,
the lightweighted flywheel really helps a lot to take off quicker!
if you wanna upgrade your turbo later, go with twin disc, or stick with stock turbo for single disc.

Yes, the flywheel should be resurfaced. As far as slipping goes, it depends on how much. It's not like it's that fragile. John Shepherd uses the same material on his DSM (only a lot less of it) and he runs 8's. Obviously he is pushing the limits, but it should tell you something. We have a race disc that can take more abuse and hold even 30% more power. You give up some of the smooth engagement to get it though.

Regardless of manufacturer, you need to decide if you want a street car or race car. If it's a street car, get a street clutch. If it's a race car, get a race clutch. Any thing between is going to be a compromise.

Go with ACT. We've had nothing but good luck with their products. Works great in our Evo VIII.

Exedy twin here as well. No complaints yet and it takes lots of abuse and slipping. I have never smelled it getting hot yet. I used to have an ACT street disk in my dsm and I have nothing bad to say about them either, however the exedy is much nicer on the left leg than the ACT was. Call me a wuss or whatever, but in traffic it makes a difference. Both clutches will hold increased power.

Cusco carbon twin-disk. Our customers love it and I intend to use this clutch on my Evolution.

I also wanted to know how would you compare your street clutch to the Hks GD max twin disc? and will this clutch handle 400whp with similar tq @ the wheels? Sorry for so many questions I just want to make the right decision
