Clutch/trans problem?... Frustrating

Hello Everyone,

So I'm getting lazy in my old age and decided to buy a car with most "big" mods already done. (built motor, trans, tcase, clutch...etc) along with that and I guess not knowing the car you never know what was done right/wrong or even done at all so now I'm solving problems the car has.

Problem:

Hard time shifting "fast", it doesn't grind, the car just forces me to wait(like hitting a wall with the shift pattern) until RPM falls (around 3k)before it will go into gear.

Background:

It has a sheptrans and exedy triple carbon clutch and holly crap the clutch is noisy. Even around town under normal acceleration it doesn't shift easy above 3k. When I am at high RPM and press the clutch pedal the multi plates for the clutch rattle louder than the BOV release! When the clutch/trans is cold it shifts great and I can shift fast. I emailed John (sheptrans) and he thought it was the clutch not releasing properly. I tend to agree with him but I checked the pedal adjustment and I can hear the plates rattle so I know the PP is releasing.

Any thoughts other than taking the clutch out for inspection?

check your fluid level. For what ever reason my car had the same problem after a twin disc i installed. turned out i messed up an axle seal and lost a bit of fluid. fixed the seal filled the trans back up and it was fine. My problem was similar to yours but i could not shift fast when it was cold or warm. Good luck.

1st problem is the shep trans(hehe Joking but true)

Either the syncro is starting to wear out. First it will lock out then it will start grinding(don't force anything right now)

You will have to pull the trans out as it is so mind as well inspect the clutch...
Triple has 2 floater disks, they have these weak metal peaces that act as a cushion. What happens is they tend to break off under hard use and misalign the disc causing engagement and shifting issues.

Take the clutch apart, inspect everything. Worst case send the trans to have looked over and change 4th syncro with hardware.

When you re install the clutch sand down with a wiz wheel the mounting points on the flywheel where the floater disc sits in and apply light coat of high temp grease to prevent future hanging up, also lube the shaft where the throw out bearing rides on to prevent annoying squeak or whistle.

And yes the triple will rattle and make all sorts of noise!!!! Just learn to love it!!

Sometimes the hub's will get grooves in them, and when you try to shift hard the sleeves (sliders that select a gear) will bind for a moment. But I would also make sure the clutch is properly adjusted and working 100%
