Tre

The transmission is out and ready for shipping! Transfer case tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommendations. It was nice to hear what you guys were saying about TRE and Jon. Looks like he is def one of the best!

I got in touch with Jon a couple of days ago and by weeks end my transmission and transfer case will be on their way to TRE.

Cant wait until it shifts like butter.

My experience with those guys has been excellent so far. THey took it apart and diagnosed the problems in the shop when I went to drop it off a few weeks ago.

Both tranny and t/case were rebuilt. Transmission and transfer case are currently awaiting pick up at TRE.

I just need the time to go and pick em up. I am very confident in their work, it should go well. Once they go in I am confident it will shift smoothly.

You would have to be crazy to NOT go with TRE since he's in Michigan already. Not sure who's the 'best' as that would be impossible to determine but you cant go wrong with Shep, Jacks, Dan B, or TRE. I say pick from those four depending on who is the closest.

For quick turnaround in the midwest you should try Devin from boostin performance. He has built alot of evo and dsm trannys. Drag race/road course trannys he has built them all. Located in addison il, will beat shipping ur trans.

TRE did my rear diff and I would have them do pretty much anything else. Jon makes his stuff bullet proof.

TONS of people on EvoM swear by Shep, so I'm pretty sure they're also a safe bet.

so in respect to all of the tranny builders out there, i only knew of one which is shep trans....now i know that there is tre out there who also does tranny work...Who else does tranny work? I'm currently in va right now and im looking to have my tranny, transfer case, and rear diff. done at the same time...I do know shipping is gonna be hell, so is there any place that gives discounts if doing all 3 at the same time? Who is the cheapest out of the 3 or 4 mentioned? I understand that cost does not compare to quality, but i need to get an estimate on total cost ( service + shipping)

MitsuJoe recommended TRE to me. They were just as close as Buschur and ShepTrans. I had trouble scheduling a drop off date at Buschur within the same month. And when I researched the sites, TRE seemed more informative. And that is what I was impressed with. The amount of information you get from TRE allows you to be more informed with the fine details of their craftsmanship.

TRE was a two hour drive but it was worth the trip because I was able to see those two (ERIC and JON) in action. They wasted no time, and I mean it! Eric was taking apart my car before I could pull the tcase out the back and turn my car off. The amount of effort he put into inspected it in front of me gave me the confidence to stick with them. I would recommend that you all drive up and see for yourself how these two operate. No detail is missed! That is why you get a nearly BULLET PROOF transmission.

I will post more when the trans is in and the car is back on the road.

As for shipping, it was going to cost close to 200 bucks to ship the transmission there and back, I saved money by driving it there. And as a favor to Mitsujoe, I hauled his t/case there as well.

Team Rip Engineering FTW.

Jon will be doing my Transmission, Transfer Case, and putting in the HD side cover on my TRE "MAXX LOCK" rear diff. I don't think any of the other shops have the technical knowledge or attention to detail that Jon does.

TRE You'll be so pleased with your choice! Congrats

If I am spending my hard earned money, I want to know that someone cares to put out their best product for my evo. I felt like that was the case at TRE. I cannot wait to get those pieces back in and experience the new set up.

Just a few more weeks!

Jon at TRE is a real smart guy. He not only has tons of practical experience building race transmissions/reservicing, he has a lot of theoretical and technical knowledge also. He was going for his Masters degree last time I spoke to him. Shep is also a great choice based on the praise I hear. The true difference from the rebuilds I've seen is that TRE shot peens the gearset. THis is not an option offered by rebuilders and even so, it is done well @ TRE. Shot peening is the only way really to make the gearset stronger without adding weight, changing metal etc. It is standard on aircraft parts like landing gear/turbine sections/rods. In addition he offers REM also. That is truly the way to do it. +1 for TRE

definitely TRE - Jon does things with his work that other shops don't do, and puts perfectionist care into every single part he's working on - the kind of guy you want to be working on your car.
