5000 Mile Service

I hope that someone out there can answer some service questions that I have. I am getting ready to do the 5000 mile service on my Evo(I've changed the oil once already at 2500 miles). The service schedule says that 5 things need to be done at each oil change:

-Change oil and filter
-Inspect break pads and rotors for wear
-Inspect suspension system for looseness and damage
-Inspect drive shaft boots for grease leaks and damage
-Rotate tires

Everything seems straight forward except for the suspension system inspection, so I checked the service manual to see what it said. It says "visually inspect the front/rear suspension components for deterioration and damage. Re-tighten the front/rear suspension components retaining bolts to specified torque." Does this mean that I should re-torque all of the bolts in the suspension? I find it hard to believe that this is what they would do at the dealer. Every service would come with a bill of over $200. What do all of you shadetree mechanics do?

Does anyone out there do their own maintenance? There has to be someone who does.

Mitsubishi told me that if i change my own oil, then i'll void the warranty. I swear, they're so full of s*it. The dealer can't make you go to them for any maintenance. Will they void your warranty if you don't get your tires rotated by them too?

All:
You can change your own oil/service and Mitsu cannot void your warrantee. It's a law. Stop listening to the snake-oil dealer/service reps who will do anything to boost their numbers. I grew up in a dealership (Porsche/Audi/Mercedes/BMW/Lexus/Infinity/Ferrari) and know the ropes as much as any. If you are getting a tough time, email/call Mitsu North America and conplaint. Go to the dealership and inform them you will be contacting Mitsu N.A. and do it. Their attitude and sevice to you will be different after that mark my words.
