Rear Diff fluid?

I am going to work on my rear diff next weekend and replace the output seals that are slightly moist. I was getting everything ready and was wondering what is the best fluid for the rear diff? I know it is a limited slip diff and it needs to have the right fluid. I was thinking Redline heavy duty shock proof, but was hoping some of you could help me out with whats best. Thanks for any help.

In another thread a member mentioned that Jon from TRE recommends Redline 80W140 GL-5 for the rear differential.

I have the same problem and will be replacing the left output shaft seal. I'm going with redline heavyweight oil. If it doesn't work out then ill go back to OEM.

I used Redline NS (non slip) 75w-140 with a tiny bit of friction modifier as well....although you probably won't need much.

This will make your diff in the rear lock up much better...especially if you haven't had Jon @ TRE do a MAX LOCK conversion for you. Worth the money IMO!

I run Diaqueen or the Redline NS depending on whether I'm tracking the car or driving it on the street. OEM Diaqueen for the street.

Friction modifier

[quote=R/TErnie;9566811]I used Redline NS (non slip) 75w-140 with a tiny bit of friction modifier as well....although you probably won't need much.

I recently had the rear differential serviced and "fixed" for max lock by rearranging the friction plates as in the manual. I do get the very low speed turning chatter.

So I wonder if I could use a little of Militec 1 as a friction modifier, don´t have acces to redline products here in Peru.

Thanks,

Ricardo

Ricardo if you want zero chatter use the diaqueen, or start adding friction modifier

I currently use Liquimoly 75-90W synthetic syncro gear oil, it is one of the best available in Peru. The are probably no more than 40 - 50 Evos in Peru, so Mitsu doesn´t have Diaqueen readily available.

Do you think Militec 1 (metal treatment) would work the same as Red Line´s friction modifier? If not I can try to import a bottle of Red Line´s stuff. Also there are other "friction modifiers" here like Qualikote (Sonax) and another one from Liquimoly as well. How many onces is required to stop the chatter?

It really doesn´t bother much, only when backing out of driveway, but I do like a lot how it performs in AutoX compared to how it was before.

Thanks for your help,

Ricardo

Rear Diff fluid?

oem fluid is great if u can get schaeffers we run that in diffs and trans we run dog box but as for diffs they last a whole lot longer and lsd plates and basket dont wear as bad as oem my diffs are set to 8kg rear and 10 front and they last 3 rally crosses vs 1 and rebuilding it

Well I replaced the seal and its holding now. Only problem now is Im getting a shudder from the rear end now on slow turns. Im going to add some friction modifier to hopefully fix it. If not then I will have to change to a different fluid.
