MAF Sensor Honeycomb Replacement

Noticed my EVO had some slight hesitation/bucking at part throttle the other night. WOT was consistent and powerful still.

Pulled the air filter and noticed the honeycomb had been spit out of the MAF sensor. I blame it on the aftermarket intake tubes DV recirculation tube location.

Anyways, has anyone found somewhere to get a replacement one?

I have looked for hours with no avail. I assume I will soon be looking for a used MAF.

Thanks!

mine did the same thing, i removed it and haven't had a problem since...

also, check your EGR tubes and make sure they're all still connected, it's pretty random but these pop off often, and had done so when my honeycomb was giving me problems.

just cuz it get sucked in? I'm assuming its just a failsafe for if something crazy happens to the cone and this will pretty much just keep the birds out?

Yeah, I thought I saw a thread or post a while back about Mellon Racing removing the honeycomb in the MAF on their car with good results. I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ge...has-begun.html

check this out too https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...-noob-lol.html

I'm sure it's not even a noticeable restriction until 700ish hp, and even then you might as well just go speed density/standalone instead of messing with removing the honeycomb and rescaling the maf, etc. Although I don't know anything about rescaling a maf or how difficult it is.

I've been removing the honeycomb since my 3000GT/Stealth days in the mid 90's.
The only reason yo should do this is if you're on something running 30+psi of boost. The honeycomb can become twisted or bent and sucked into the turbo.

Facts:
1) It does not help airflow to remove it.
2) It does not make more power.
3) Load will go lower which will affect AFR and Timing.
4) You must re-tune when you do this mod
5) I've had zero adverse affects from doing this mod

while we're on the subject of the stock MAF, there once was a myth about it being too restrictive. I just made 668awhp on the buschur racing mustang dyno, that's about 750awhp on a dynojet. So I think for most people that's going to be plenty.

Does anyone know the purpose of the Honeycomb?

Honeycomb looks to be there for aerodynamics. A type of diffuser. Probably to prevent localized vortices that would throw off measurements.

Anyone know for sure?

I think that's a fair way of putting it.
