Dropping motor in...

Hey guys I just had a simple question...since the motor itself is only held on by one motor mount (other three on trans), would it be safe to install the motor back in the car on that one motor mount while I wait for my clutch parts to come in? Unless everybody says it is, it just doesn't look like the one motor mount will take the weight very well.

If it can, does the motor need to be held up from the bottom or something?

Thanks!

No, you will have to support it with a jack/jackstand.

Remember to use a 2x4 or a piece of plywood that will spread the weight out though so you do not dent your oil pan.

YEA other wise it will sit on the pulleys and possible break something a jack or jack stand or even engine hoist will suffice lol

I always recommend using some sort of solid means of holding the engine like a stack of wood or scissor jack. Even good hydraulic jacks can bleed down over time.

Other than that, theres no issue using the one mount and something solid on the other end.

if you have your flywheel in you can put the crossmember in (that your front motor mount bolts to) and put a 2x4 on that and the flywheel will rest on it.

Why not just wait and drop the Trans in with the motor?

So the motor is on the stand right now...how am I supposed to install the clutch while it's on the stand and then hook the trans up to it before I drop them both in at the same time?

Hold the motor with the cherry picker, or set on something soft on the ground like an old tire.

I personally prefer to put them in separately, but for me its usually a 1 man operation.

Well that what I was thinking of doing but I think it'd be hard to torque the flywheel bolts down properly when it's hanging like that. I don't have an air gun either so it's all hand tools.

I tightened my flywheel bolts by hand while it was hanging from the cherry picker. I also had a bracket I made to hold flywheel
