2.4 Strokers and Cam Covers

Well I have been running without a cam gear cover for almost a year now, and It finally bit me... literally! I was checking some stuff out on the engine last week and my pinky got wedged between the valve cover and the top of the timing belt... needless to say it hurt like a *****

My question for you guys is when you put a cam cover on your 2.4 are you just running the two top bolts on the valvecover or will all 4 bolts line up if you trim the lower timing cover?

3 of 4 of mine fit on my clear cam cover only reason last one did not fit was because the hole for it was bent so Kevin said oh well and been running like that for one month perfect just did not want anything to fly in there for sure not doing another build again

Thanks Rock... did you remove the gasket material from it as well since it doesnt seal correctly to the lower timing cover?

I know the top two will fit no problem, but the bottom two have to go through the lower timing cover before they bolt down... I know I can make it fit, just seeing what others have done ...

I wonder if you can put the 2.4L head "wings" on the 2.0L head so bolts line up?

I cut notches in the lower 2 of the top cover and the top 2 of the lower cover. Its not perfect, but it keeps them together and lined up. I was trying to dig up part numbers of 4G64 timing covers to compare them to the 63 covers but couldn't find anything. Was also wondering about the "wings" on the head too.

Took my middle and upper cam covers off completely as the middle one was causing problems as it must of been bent as when you done up the top left middle cover bolt you could here some nasty grinding.......turns out it was somehow distorted and hitting the water pump pulley.

Take the little hose loop thing that's right by the cam gears on that line, take it off, and flip it the other way so the hose is farther away from the gears.

Learned that trick on a buddy's car. Kept the hose away until he got a aftermarket gear cover since the cam gears wouldn't fit under the stocker.
