Hi guys,
I currently have a HKS 3037S kit on my Evo 9
judging from the amount of oil in my FMIC and the fact that i'm topping up the oil with every tank of Gas, the oil seals have taken a dump
I'm at a crossroads.. I live overseas, and don't have access to a local shop to rebuild my turbo..
so basically I have to Send it to the UK or the USA to get it rebuilt (if It can be) assuming it's only the oil seals.. and the CHRA doesn't have to be completly changed... it's still gonna cost me..
shipping the turbo THERE, having it rebuilt ($400-500) and then shipped back to me.. i'm getting close to the cost of a new turbo..
so I'm probably just going to replace the damn thing..
I figure now with all the new Turbo tech these days.. Extruded fin, billet wheel, ceramic bearings, etc
I can probably make more power with less lag from a turbo of similar size...
the thing is I'd like to re-use as much of the kit as possible... and just swap out the turbo..
I like the clean compact look of it and would like to retain as much as possible
here's what the kit looks like:

Turbo specs:
Compressor wheel trim 56,
1. Inducer 57mm
2. exduser 76.2
Comp housing:
1. Inlet 100mm
2. Outlet 50mm
3. 0.60 A/R
Turbine wheel
1. Trim 84mm
2. Inducer 60mm
3. exdusor 55mm
Exhaust housing
1. Inlet flange gt25
2. Outlet gt30
3. 0.87 A/R
so as you can see..
it's a T25 flange.. but it's externally gated.. with a 4bolt downpipe etc.
would it be possible to get something like an FP Black (for example), minus the Turbine housing, internal WG and actuator etc... (hopefully dropping the cost significantly) and just swapping it into my turbine housing..
thoughts? advice? etc
Thanks!

negative on the stock framed turbo's, they spin the wrong way.
I would recommend the GTX series turbo's.
If you want more response, try the GTX3071.
If you want more power (and similar response), try the GTX3076.
They both have the same exhaust side as your setup, and should be a 100% straight swap into your current kit.
Ask MAPerformance or Full-Race for pricing on both of these!
When are you reaching max boost on this setup? (20psi @ 4400rpm ish??)
my tuner changed his exhaust housing on his 3037 from 0.82 open scroll to T3 Twinscroll, he now makes 20psi @ 3500rpm, and only lost 15hp at the top of the RPM range. For drifting it's well worth the trade!
The car makes 520whp
Cheers, Mike

Thanks for the quick reply mike!
so HKS variations of the Garrett turbos don't use some random propitiatory flanges/ connectors etc.. It would be a bolt on affair? (oil/water lines DP etc)
isn't the GTX3076R a T3 flanged turbo? ur saying I just lop off the T25 and change the flange to a T3?
as for spool.. the car is a dog under 3k... but it has ported head, AMS intake mani, lowered compression, cams etc.. so it might not be the same..
I see positive manifold pressure in the 3's... and it hits in the 4's

if you buy for example gtx3071 or gtx 3076 you will be able to put that t25 turbine housing off HKS turbo becuase they share the same turbine wheel.
The cheapest solution is to buy only Garrett GT3076 CHRA.... (so the the whole rotating assembly without turbine and compressor housing ) and then just put your old compressor housing and turbine housing and you have the same turbo as before.

That's a good idea...
could I do the same thing with a GTX3076R? or would I just keep the new compressor housing?

with gtx3076 you will have to keep gtx3076 compressor housing because wheel is different ...inducer is little bigger on gtx AFAIR...
here is a place where you can buy only CHRA

so basically it's a question of

3076 and 3076wg have different turbine wheels so you need to be careful not to buy wrong one...

right, gotcha.. thanks man..
seems the GTX is worth the extra $300 (other site had the turbo listed for $1,200)
for the extra tech and additional HP..
appreciate your time and help..
now time to get in touch with some vendors and see who can hook me up..

as far as i could see the reviews you can expect some more lag with gtx....about 200-300 rpm with little bit more power up top...
laggier huh? I was hoping the Billet wheel tech and the HKS turbine divided housing would help eliviate that problem..
I was looking at this compressor map:

and it doesn't appear you're giving up much in the bottom end..
but gaining a boat load in the top end..
then I saw this video on youtube..
I hope it doesn't end up as laggy as this :S
