Issues With Typhoon Intake?

I just installed my K&N Typhoon intake. Here are my mods..

XEDE (PnP. Stage Zero with Downpipe 91 map)
Buscher Turboback with hi flow cat 3".
Grounding Kit
.

Just installed the Typhoon.

Issue that happened on test drive. When i boosted it hit above 20. couldn't tell since i can watch the road and the gauge. But it felt like a fuel cut, when it boosted and i switched gears but would only happen at high boost.. .. could this be that i am boosting to high.. . and i need to tone the map down.. or i need to upgrade fuel pump.. please help me. i need to figure this out by this weekend. btw.. when i hit the sputter of the engine it threw a CEL.. i can't find out what it is right now..
any ideas on what to do...

is the ede programmed for an intake?... sounds like it needs to be remapped, adding an intake with a hard pipe changes the intake flow but a great deal...

no i experienced a CEL with fuel cut after install of TB, IC piping, and typhoon. It will code as overboost. it usually happens around 5k right? It sucks andI am waiting on my EBC to get back to fix the issue.

I just installed the BR 3" turbo back and I have also installed the typhoon. I am getting similar results. The SES is coming on due to an overboost condition. This only happens when I try to pour on some gas. The noise from the intake is from the ECU trying to dump all the boost. When that doesn't do the job the ECU tries to flood the mix with gas to the point that it hits fuel cut. I have a SAFC-II from BR that I will install pending the arrival of more parts. I am sure that the BR settings will fix the problem.

Aftermarket intakes aren't recommended with the Xede. It screws up the maf signals. You will need to get your Xede custom dyno tuned to operate correctly.

yah like i said ur air flow is screwed up... you need to take the car to a shop and have them dyno tune it, if it's possible have the xede tuned for those parts ... u shouldn't need a fuel pump the stock pump is pretty beefy i mean the car runs rich out of the box you haven't done major work on the car only freed up some airflow. Should be minor tuning, anytime u add parts or remove parts u need to retune the car

well i reset the ecu. and tuned down the map to a lower % on the xede. to a safer amount. i will see tommorow how my car runs.. i am guessing that the percentage in the tables and to lower the percents is to lower the psi ...

So i got up today, to drive my car to work which is pretty close and let my car warm up. As i drove i kept from boosting and gradully raised boost as i drove. everything up to 18 psi seemed fine, but once it hit 18 psi there was a pop. which made my car sputter. it sounds like perhaps my bov is not holding boost properly. any suggestions.. i might have a pince in the hose somewhere. this could cause it?

That definitely sounds like some sort of fuel cut.. are you in a position to put the stock airbox back on and try it out again? The one problem with the open filters is that they can confuse the hell out of the maf sensor, and without compensating for it, it thinks the car is ingesting alot more air than it is.. you CAN tune for it.. but for the time being, put the stock box back on and see if it goes away.. if it does, at least you know where to go from there.. If it doesnt, you'll have to look at your other mods..

However, before you do anything, do an ECU reset.. It could also be boost spike and fuel cut related to it.. with the stock solenoid my car routinely spikes at 21psi due to the free-flowing buschur exhaust, and the spiking actually isn't too big of an issue, its the fact that the boost is slightly higher, and spools slightly earlier due to the lower restriction, so the spike is somewhere in the map where the stock ECU expects to have to provide less fuel. Try to RICHEN up your mixture from 2500-3500rpm, Its a slippery slope though, too much fuel and you'll also get fuel cut, too little fuel, and you'll get a potentially hazardous lean condition.

If you find that once your over 3000 rpm, and you don't get the symptoms, then its probably fuel tuning..

Sounds like similar situation with me. I already had a K&N Typhoon and a HKS Carbon TI catback. As soon as I installed my Typhoon (a couple of months ago) I noticed flat spots in my torque curve, but thought my buttdyno was getting used to the power . Talked to some folks and ran my A/F, which was very low around 9-10 range and was droping boost immediately after peak boost . We estimated that with the Typhoon, the MAF was reading too much air then the ECU would dump extra fuel and turn the boost down. Thought some A/F tuning and a MBC would fix it. Not yet

This weekend just installed a TurboXS MBC at 19.25 max boost, HKS DP, EGT guage, and SAFCII. We tuned it very conservatively... ran great (good boost and EGTs) for about 7 hard WOT pulls (just enough for the ECU to relearn), then fuel cut begins with no CEL. Finally after a trying to identify what the heck is going on with additional fuel cuts, it throws a CEL/SES. Had a friend run the code, P0234, which equates to boost solenoid malfunction and it appears the MAF is receiving too much air (logged 220% volumetric air) then dumping fuel to compensate since my factory solenoid is not connected. I do not think my A/F will be able to compensate enough for that much air!

Before I spend a ton of money with some O2 Wideband and Dyno time, I thought I would call K&N and get their feedback. I did so and spoke to one of their senior techs. He understood what I was telling him, but had not heard of it before (you guys need to call them with your problems which I will post on another thread), he recommended I try to restrict some of the air by closing off half of the intake filter outside with some material to see if it will reduce air volume. Going to try this tonight, wish me luck. If this fixes it...going back to the stock intake housing with a drop in and will call K&N back.

Well...that fixed it. Several hard pulls with no fuel cut. A garbage bag and some duct tape. Leave it up to old school diagnostics, heh!

Anyway....time to head back to the stock intake housing unless I want to drive around with this on. K&N did offer to send me a sock application which they use for extreme dusty situations that will reduce air instake by 3-4%, but I do not think this will be enough. Does anyone know if the S-AFC II can adjust for this much air, 220% volumetric?

For the record here: My intentions here are not to flame K&N, but share my experiences. I have been using K&N filters for about 15 years. They are a great company. In fact, I was impressed with the quality of this application (except for my air volume issue) and the instructions. I just want to emphasize they seemed eager to try to help on the phone. For the guys that are having issues, you need to call in if you are having problems instead of just selling/dumping the product and passing the problem on to someone else. If they get enough inquiries and issues they will probably build a fix or re-engineer to rectify the problem. Be well.
