Funny enough, I was recently looking for this same info and came across this site http://www.collectracecars.com/evo/mechgaugeinstall.htm. He has a nice set of pictures on his site showing exactly where to find a spot on the passenger side, but I'll include a link to the final one here.

I started doing my boost gauge install yesterday and found that I could pop the grommet out from the inside. You just have to remove the glove box and use a long stick to get to it. I cut out the center of the grommet and placed it back in the hole to keep the vacuum line from scraping. It's tough to get your hand back there to replace the grommet, but I got it done eventually.

Hope this helps, you're looking at the far (passenger) side of the firewall. You can see the spot where the hose goes in clearly:

Yup thats thats the place I used. Easy to get the grommet out. Just take a long phillips or flat head screwdriver and push on it and it will fall right out(inside the car).
